The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a shoplifter, a burglary, a disturbance and a theft. On Thursday, January 8th at 9:00 pm an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 39-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $51.06. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Friday night, January 9th at 8:30, an officer transported a 39-year old male of St. Louis to the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Monday, January 12th at 4:27 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of South Pershing in reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report revealed a person or persons unknown entered a residence by breaking a window valued at $25.00. Nothing is believed to be missing. That same night at 9:52, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of East Third in reference to a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct as well as on an active arrest warrant from Rolla, Missouri. He was issued a summons for the disorderly conduct charge and was incarcerated pending extradition to Rolla. On Wednesday, January 14th at 2:20 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that someone unknown took a portable kerosene heater valued at $300.00 from the bed of a truck that was parked at Casey's General Store located on Highway 19 South. The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a meeting tonight at 7:00 at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington. After approval of the agenda and during bids, the City requested bids for a skirt replacement project at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Bids were due January 12th and the City received only one bid for the project and the bid will be presented to the Board. City Administrator Ray Walden will update the Board on current projects and offer information concerning the City of Salem followed by a report by Mayor J.J. Tune. In new and miscellaneous business, the board will be presented a bill of over $3,000 for their approval from Altec Industries for the testing and repairing of the Electric Departments Tree Trimming Truck. The amount of the bill is $7,720.07. Salem Police Chief Keith Steelman will be presenting a Body Camera Audio/Video Policy for the Board of Alderman’s approval. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing contracts. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The 2014-2015 Basketball Homecoming was held Friday night at the Salem High School gym and the 2015 Homecoming Queen was Erin Tune. Last year’s queen, Kelsey Michno crowned Tune on the SHS stage after the announcement was made.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their January meeting on tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00. After approval of the agenda will be the summary of operations and statistics reports for December. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then update the Board with the nursing, ancillary and call light reports. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will then update the Board with an auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar, legislative issues and the patient satisfaction survey results for the hospital ER and inpatient along with the rural health clinics, all followed by the Chief of Staff report. In old business, the Board will address the 2011 strategic planning goals update, the Community Health Needs Assessment, the Ozark Independent Health Alliance (OIHA), there will be an Ebola update and an update on the election filings. During new business, the Board will conduct a conflict of interest policy review and address purchases made for the hospital. The January meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers beat the Sullivan Eagles for the second time in six days Monday night by the score of 47-43 at the St. James Tournament. Logan Pogue scored 12 points and had 6 rebounds while Kobe Mead added 10 more points. Salem is now 7-6 on the year and they will play Friday night at 8:00 against the Rolla Bulldogs at St. James.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers blocked 10 shots tying a program record as they trounced the Rolla Lady Bulldogs, 64-31 on Monday night. Savannah Hanning scored 20 points to lead Salem followed by Payton Curley with 13 points. Salem is now 12-3 on the year and they will host Licking Friday night.

Jaden Schwartz tallied a power-play goal and an assist in the St. Louis Blues' 3-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday. T.J. Oshie and Carl Gunnarsson also scored. Brian Elliott made 17 saves for the Blues, who have recorded a point in eight straight games (7-0-1) heading into the All-Star break.

Funeral services for Sherry L. Fann of Salem, age 47, will be held today at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 this morning until service time. Interment will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sherry Fann Memorial Fund.

Funeral services for Marjorie H. Delcour of Forsyth, formerly of Salem, age 91, will be held today at 1:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Graveside services for Howard Atchison of Salem, age 59, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Concord Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 to 11 in the morning at Fox Funeral Home in Licking. 

Funeral services for Lorean Davis of St. James, age 91, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the St. James Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time. Interment will be in the Highgate Baptist Cemetery.

Funeral services for Frieda Ann Davidsmeyer of Salem, age 86, will be held Wednesday at noon at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery.

Funeral services for Diana (Baker) Howerton of Rolla, age 58, will be held Thursday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Allen Cemetery in Raymondville.

Funeral mass for Martha Ruder of Steelville, formerly of Kirkwood, age 90, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the St. Peter Catholic Church in Kirkwood. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the St. Lucas Church Cemetery in Sappington.

Funeral services for Glen Edward Wilson of Salem, age 76, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Love Pack Backpack Program. 

Memorial services for Norma Lee Chase of Salem, age 83, will be held at 1:00 Saturday at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from noon until service time Saturday. Interment will be in the Morrison Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Dry Fork Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Juanita Jeffery of Rolla, age 87, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Mt. Olive Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Melbourne, Arkansas. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olive, Arkansas.

A Celebration of Life for Johnnie Brown of Rolla, age 65, will be held Saturday from 4:00 to 6:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Hazel Dean Welch will be held Monday at 3:30 at the Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until service time at the church. Interment will be Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
