The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Donald Dodd and Mayor Gary Brown were in attendance requesting the Commission to sign a letter being sent to MoDOT asking for the addition of two-foot shoulders to Highway 32 East from Salem to the Iron County line. All three Commissioners signed the letter being sent. In road reports, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Road 6460; material would be added and then grading would also be done on Dent County Roads 4235 and 5170. He went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5380 and a crossover pipe would be replaced on Dent County Road 5670. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that material would be added to Dent County Roads 2303, 3225 and 4280; while brush would be cut on Dent County Road 3330. Larson went on to say that a driveway pipe would be put in on Dent County Road 3260, rock would continued to be screened and a crew would be building a rack for a fuel tank for the generator out at the shed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the County Commission Association of Missouri Board meeting in Jeff City. That Board addressed their training sessions that would be coming up in February. The CCAM Board also addressed various legislative issues including; the Supreme Court throwing out Senate Districts as well as other bills dealing with higher education and health, a bill that addresses the amending of county budgets, an Internet sales tax bill, and electronic monitoring of prisoners outside a jail cell. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that absentee voting continues and the last day to absentee vote at the clerk’s office is February 6^th. The last day an absentee ballet can be mailed out is February 1^st and the Presidential Primary will be held in Dent County on Tuesday, February 7^th. Curley also reported that phone bids would be taken for propane at the courthouse. Jason Murphey with Great Rivers was due in and would be bringing plans and updates on the Swiney Bridge project. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners is Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Friday, January 13^th at 4:52 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the police station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a 19-inch flat screen television valued at $98 from a residence in the 1200 block of East Second Street. On Saturday, January 14^th at 12:30 in the afternoon, an officer was conducting an investigation of possession of drugs at the Walnut Motel. The investigation led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was issued summons to appear in court and released. Later that night at 8:02, an officer on patrol found that a person or persons unknown

had spray painted graffiti on several places inside the city park including the pool building. The value of the damage is unknown at this time. A Little later that night at 8:20, an officer was contacted at the police station in reference to trespassing. The investigation revealed that a 35-year old Salem male had went into a residence without permission. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect for trespassing 2^nd degree and he was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Sunday, January 15^th at 7:09 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to Casey’s General Store on South Main in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown driving a red 1990’s model Chevrolet Cavalier pumped $15.01 in fuel and drove away without paying.

Route KK in Iron and Reynolds Counties will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform edge rut repairs. This section of roadway is located from Route 32 in Iron County to Route TT in Reynolds County. Weather permitting work will take place Monday, January 23^rd through Friday, January 27^th from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. Missouri elementary, middle and home school students K-8 are invited to help in the fight against litter in the Show-Me State and to have creative and educational fun by participating in the 2012 “Yes You CAN Make Missouri Litter Free” trash-can-decorating contest. The annual contest is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) as part of the state’s “No More Trash!” campaign to raise awareness about Missouri's litter problem and to discourage littering. The contest encourages school classes and groups to join in the fight against litter by decorating and displaying a large trash can with the “No More Trash!” logo and a litter-prevention message using a variety of creative media. Schools may submit one entry in each competition category: K-2, 3-5 and 6-8. Entries are judged based on creativity, adherence to contest rules and effective use of theme and logo. There is no entry fee for the contest. Participating school groups must simply email a completed entry form and up to three photos of the completed trash can (with and without participating students) to nomoretrash@mdc.mo.gov. Email submissions are required. Deadline for entries is March 5, 2012.
