The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Friday, January 14^th at 9:47 in the evening, eight firefighters responded on Route HH to a family dwelling and upon arrival found heavy smoke coming from the side of the residence. The kitchen was found to be blackened out, smoke stained walls and no fire, as the fire was put out upon their arrival. All occupants were evacuated and the residence was ventilated. On Saturday, January 15^th at 6:47 in the evening, eleven firefighters responded to a search and rescue for a ten-year old boy on County Road 3220. The youth was found and was unharmed. On Monday, January 17^th at 3:34 in the afternoon, eleven firefighters responded to a building fire on Dent County Road 3250 and upon arrival found the structure was fully involved. The Dent County Fire Protection District called and received Mutual Aid from the Jadwin Volunteer Fire Department, Montauk Rural Fire Department, Lenox Rural Fire Department, the Rolla Rural Fire Department and the St. James Fire Department. Then at 4:54 that same afternoon, eleven firefighters responded to South McArthur to a residence where the call was determined to be a false alarm as the homeowner thought the CO detector was going off. On Tuesday, January 18^th at 8:21 in the morning, six firefighters responded to the Salem Memorial District Hospital for an outside equipment fire. Upon arrival firefighters found that an electric pole outside the building had caught on fire and was out, with no damage to the Salem Memorial District Hospital building. On Wednesday, January 19^th 9:34 in the morning, firefighters responded to a reported gas leak at the Oak Hill R-I School located on Highway 19 South. The leak will have to be repaired and will cause the school to close for repairs.

With heavy snow in the forecast, the Missouri Department of Transportation officials are encouraging motorists to limit travel during the storm. MoDOT crews are prepared for this latest round of winter weather and will be out in full force plowing state highways. If you do have to travel, MoDOT urges you to plan ahead, take your time and know what you’re up against by checking the department’s Traveler Information Map.  Located at www.modot.org, the map gives drivers an up-to-the-minute view of road conditions for major Missouri highways. Conditions for major routes across the state are color-coded to give visitors the information they need at a glance. Travelers can also call MoDOT’s toll-free number, 888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636), to get road condition information.  

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library or by conference call if the weather becomes too bad beginning at 6:00 pm. After a review of the minutes from the previous meeting, Hospital Comptroller Stephanie Wofford will give the summary of operations for the month of December, Administrator Dennis Pryor will update the Board on the auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar, legislative issues and the ER and inpatient satisfaction survey results. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then update the Board on the statistics reports for December along with the nursing services, ancillary service and call light reports, followed by the Chief of Staff report. In old business, there will be a 2010 strategic planning goals update, an update on the hospital lagoon, an update on the election filings will be given, and there will be a discussion on the TCRC. In new business, the Board will address a conflict of interest policy and hospital purchases. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The deadline for filing for the Municipal Election, on Tuesday, April 5^th for a seat on any of the local school boards, the fire protection district board, hospital board or for either East or West Ward Aldermanic seats in Salem has come to an end. The Oak Hill R-I school board had three 3-year terms available and incumbents Randy Parker and Duane Blackwell filed, as did Curt Miller, which filled those positions. The Green Forest R-II board had three 3-year terms with incumbents Amber Toman, Rick Shults and Scott Shults having filed, as did Josh Cartwright. At the Dent-Phelps R-III, there were three 3-year terms available. Incumbents Toby Toman and Joe Case filed along with Tad Headrick, Ron Copeland and Elizabeth Brockmann. There were three 3-year terms on the Northwood R-IV school board. Incumbents Jenna Dunn and Helania Wulff filed and Vickie Martin and Mark McSwain also filed for those positions. The Salem R-80 Board of Education had three 3-year terms available. Incumbent Clifton Parker filed, as did Karen Kinder, Rowdy Mackley, Jim McDaniels, Phil Krueger and Steven Morton. The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors had Mike Godi file for the one 3-year term and John McColloch filed for the one 6-year term. Incumbent Joe Hayes was the lone filer for the one 6-year term that is was available on the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors. The City of Salem had one East Ward and one West Ward Aldermanic seat, which are two-year terms. Philip Giacomelli and Mike Godi filed for the West Ward Aldermanic seat and Dr. Haydn Powell Jr. was the lone filer for the East Ward Aldermanic seat.
