The Industrial Development Authority of the Count of Dent (IDA) and Rightway Remanufacturing, LLC have agreed to terminate the lease on the building located at #2 East Pines, located in the Masters Industrial Park, effective December 31, 2011. The sales and opportunities in the remanufactured and new mobile home business has been slowed due to the economic conditions of the past few years. Rightway Homes still remains in business and the reconditioning of the homes will occur at the Rightway Homes location. The volume did not support a separate location and staff that was required to occupy the building in the Masters Industrial Park. The building was constructed with fund and services provided by the IDA, Dent County, City of Salem and the Economic Development Administration (EDA). The IDA is preparing information to seek a tenant for the building. The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors monthly meeting was held Tuesday evening in the Hospital Library. Dr. Ryan Pharr gave the Chief of Staff report.  The Medical Staff recommended and the board approved courtesy staff privileges for Amanda Pearce, D.O., Emergency Department Physician and all active staff and courtesy staff reappointment privileges. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor the announced that Dr. Demorlis would be the new Chief of Staff for 2012. Pryor then reported that two EMT staff, Ben Pursifull and Scott Harris have received the Governor’s Recognition for Joplin Tornado Response. Pursifull gave a presentation about their experience working in Joplin following the tornado. Controller Stephanie Wofford stated that for the month of December there was an excess of revenues over expenses of  $14,238 and so far year-to-date, expenses are over revenues by $510,626. Carol Lacy gave the Director of Nursing report for December. There were 69 acute care patients admitted, 789 emergency room visits for the month, 206 ambulance runs, 9 surgery cases, 169 home health visits, 7,694 lab tests, 1,000 radiological procedures, 149 CT scans, 20 MRI scans, 9 nuclear med scans, 441 rehab treatments, 2,115 cardiopulmonary procedures, 210 dialysis treatments and 360 clinical visits. Lacy also gave the in patient call light report for the last quarter of the calendar year. There is an average of 31 call lights per day with a 2 minute 53 second response time. Staff is present in the patient rooms an average of seven minutes per event and 5 hours and 40 minutes per day.  Lacy reported that the Disaster Codes for the hospital’s Disaster Preparedness have been updated and that a $7,000 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services has been received to update some equipment.  Pryor reported on damage to the Physicians Office Building #1 when a vehicle hit the outside of the building breaking the glass door entrance.  No one was hurt and the damages are being repaired.  In the construction update, work is progressing on the Long Term Care expansion that is 95% complete.  Pryor gave the ER Patient and Inpatient Satisfaction results for the last quarter of the calendar year.  There were 186 ER responses and 23 inpatient responses with nearly 100 percent satisfaction in all areas.  Pryor said that the hospice program has been postponed until June but the hospital continues to gather information for the program. The next health screenings will be held on February 8^th and 9^th, in the hospital library.  Assistant Administrator, Kasey Lucas updated the board on the Electronic Medical Record conversion.  Carol Lacy updated the board on the TeleHealth capabilities at the hospital, as there were 23 patients used this new technology in December.  Pryor reported that the election-filing deadline has passed and Leon Kreisler and Ray Bruno have filed for a board position.  The board approved the budgeted purchase of a Dynamometer for Rehab from Sammons Preston for $422, an ambulance for EMS from Osage for $101,500, a tablet computer for Information Systems from PC Connection for $2,773, ten SonicWall software license from SMI for $254, Core Measures from CPSI for $13,500 and Telemetry Monitoring System for Nursing from Nihon-Kohden for $163,973. The board then went into closed session.

An accident occurred at 6:45 Monday evening in Butler County on Business US 67 about three miles South of Poplar Bluff. According to the highway patrol report, a 1992 Dodge driven by 66-year old Charles Haynes of Salem was traveling eastbound on Business US 67 and was struck from behind by a 2005 Jeep driven by 41-year old Angela Ray of Poplar Bluff. Haynes suffered moderate injuries and was taken via ambulance to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge and the Jeep both sustained minor damage and were removed by the owner.

An accident occurred at 4:30 Tuesday afternoon in Dent County on Highway 19 about half a mile north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1993 Chevrolet 1500 driven by 45-year old Vernon Ray of Salem struck the rear of a 2001 Dodge Dakota driven by 21-year old Benjamin Elliott of Salem, who was turning into a private drive. Elliott suffered minor injuries, but sought his own treatment. Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seat restraint. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by a private vehicle. The Dodge sustained moderate damage and was removed by the owner.
