An accident occurred at 5:00 Friday morning in Dent County at the Route C Route H intersection about eleven miles west of Salem that took the life a Salem woman. According to the highway patrol report, a 1988 Isuzu pickup driven by 56-year old Opal Porter of Salem was traveling westbound on Route H. Porter failed to stop at a stop sign, traveled through the intersection and across Route C. The pickup then became airborne, struck a fence and tree. Dent County Coroner Gina White pronounced Porter dead at 6:17. Porter was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Isuzu was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving shoplifting and leaving the scene of an accident. On Tuesday, January 12th at 8:15 in themorning, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter that led to the arrest of a 24-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued $26.00. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 12:48 that afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of East Jack in reference to a leaving the scene accident. The investigation of the report revealed that a 31-year old Salem male driving a 1992 Dodge Dakota, struck a 2005 Dodge Neon that was parked and unoccupied then left the scene.  Further investigation led to the arrest of the driver for driving while drugged. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was incarcerated. On Thursday, January 14th at 8:47 at night, an officer was sent to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter that led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem male for stealing merchandise valued $3.85.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Dent County Sheriff’s Department arrested a husband and wife from Boss last Wednesday for the manufacture of methamphetamine. A warrant was served on 44-year old Larry Emory and 45-year old Bernice Emory. Both were charged with five felony counts: one for possession of a controlled substance except for 35 grams or less of marijuana; one felony count for the unlawful use of drug paraphernalia-amphetamine /methamphetamine; one for the possession of chemicals with the intent to manufacture; one felony count for the possession of any methamphetamine precursor drug with intent to manufacture amphetamine or methamphetamine; and one felony count for the distributing, delivery or manufacturing to produce or attempt to possess with the intent to distribute, deliver, manufacture or produce a controlled substance. Bond has been set at $25,000 cash only for each. The arrests were the result of an ongoing investigation of the Highway Patrol.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released a number of their reports. On Saturday, January 9th at 2:21 pm a total of six firefighters were detailed to Highway 68 where upon arrival they found a small outbuilding that contained a wood furnace that was fully involved. The fire was extinguished and scene under control at 3:02 pm. At 9:21 that evening, the Dent County Fire Protection District was on County Road 2630 and upon arrival 13 firefighters found a one-story wood frame structure with nothing showing. The owner stated that flames were coming out of the chimney, but were out upon arrival.  After an investigation of the chimney, attic and furnace, there was nothing found and the scene was under control at 10:36 pm. On Monday night, January 11th at 7:48, eight firefighters were dispatched to Highway 19 south to a passenger vehicle fire. No injuries were reported, the fire was extinguished and the scene was under control at 8:51 pm. On Tuesday, January 12th at 9:50 pm eight firefighters were sent to County Road 5130 to a family dwelling for a chimney or flue fire. The wrong directions were given and after receiving the directions upon arrival the crew checked the flue and found it to be clean. The units were back in service at 10:42 pm. At 10:32 that same evening, The Dent County Fire Protection District setup a landing zone at the station to assist the Salem ambulance. A total of eight firefighters responded to the call.

Jonathon Hambacker scored 24 points and brought down 11 rebounds as the Salem Tigers beat the Houston Tigers 60-52 in overtime in their first SCA game of the year. Salem went 27 for 37 from the free throw line, as Hambacker went 16 for 20. Phillip Moser added 16 points as the Tigers move to 4-8 on the year and 1-0 in the SCA. Salem will play in the St. James Tournament on Tuesday. They will face the St. James Tigers in first round action starting at around 7:30.

The Salem Lady Tiger basketball team travel to Owensville to play the Dutchgirls. The JV starts things off at 6:00 with the Varsity to follow. Salem is 9-5 on the year.

Willie Warren scored 21 points and hit some big free throws down the stretch as the Oklahoma Sooners overcame an early deficit to down the Missouri Tigers 66-61 in a Big 12 battle at the Lloyd Noble Center. Laurence Bowers came off the bench to provide 15 points and 10 caroms for Missouri (14-4, 2-1), which saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end.

Chris Mason stopped 21 shots as the St. Louis Blues took a 4-1 win over the New York Rangers at Scottrade Center. Alexander Steen and Roman Polak each had a goal and an assist while David Perron also lit the lamp for the Blues, who have won four straight for the first time this season. David Backes added an empty-net goal in the final moments of the game. The Blues will face Columbus tonight at 6:00 on KSMO Radio.

The Cardinals' two arbitration-eligible players both filed for arbitration on Friday. Schumaker is eligible for arbitration for the first time, Ludwick for the second. The Cardinals have not gone to arbitration with a player since 1999, when they won their case against pitcher Darren Oliver.

Funeral services for Vesta T. Campbell of Lamar, formerly of Bunker, age 94, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Bay Cemetery.

Funeral services for Dollie Anderson of Salem, age 91, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Richard “Rick” Dulany of Farmington, age 47, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 in the morning until service time Wednesday. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Graveside services for Beverly Ann Hall of Rolla, age 78, will be held Wednesday at 3:00 at the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster. Visitation will today from 5:00 to 7:00 with an Eastern Star service at 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Schuyler Co. Historical Society.
