The Salem Police Department released their reports for the first couple weeks in January. On January 3rd at 1:12 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 55-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On January 8th at 3:12 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to the 800 block of East Hawkins in reference to a theft. The report revealed person(s) unknown took computer components from the porch of a residence valued at $100. Further investigation by the police led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem male for stealing. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On January 9th at 7:38 in the evening, an officer was sent to the 800 block of North Henderson in reference to a domestic assault. The report revealed that a 46-year old Salem male had assaulted a 35-year old Salem female. He was arrested and issued a summons to appear in court for domestic assault. He was then incarcerated on an outstanding probation absconder warrant pending extradition. On January 11th at 8:43 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 27-year old Salem female on a warrant from the Dent County Sheriff’s Department. She was transported to the Dent County Jail and released to their custody. On January 12th at 3:24 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Doniphan Police Department in reference to a city warrant on an 18-year old Salem male that was unable to post bond and was transported to the Dent County Jail where he was incarcerated.

An incident happened on Highway 63 in Phelps County at 4:00 yesterday afternoon about two miles south of Vida. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 International Tractor-Trailer driven northbound by 41-year old Benjamin Taylor of University City, Missouri, had a large piece of ice fall from the tractor-trailer that went through the windshield of a southbound 1996 Ford Ranger driven by 45-year old Len S. Mathis of Edgar Springs. Mathis suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by the Phelps County Ambulance. The Ford Ranger sustained moderate damages from the ice. Mathis was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

An accident happened in Dent County at 4:15 on Highway 32 about four miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1995 Dodge Intrepid driven by 72-year old Howard Stotler of Salem, caught fire while in motion at which time the brakes failed and the Intrepid ran off the road. Stotler suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by a private vehicle. The Dodge Intrepid was totaled and removed from the scene by Bestway Auto. Stotler was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their regular meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After the call to order and the approval of the minutes from the December meeting, Administrator Dennis Pryor will give the summary of operations and statistics report along with the nursing services for the month of December, then give the ancillary services and auxiliary reports. Pryor will also give the hospital activity calendar, a legislative update and the results of the inpatient and ER patient satisfaction surveys. Old business will include a physician office building report, the strategic planning meeting update and election filing status that ends on January 16th. New business to be addressed will include purchases, the sale of assets and a conflict of interest policy. The Board may then adjourn and go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing personnel, contracts and pending litigation. The regular meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

IThe St. Louis Blues will be in Los Angeles tonight at 9:30 to continue their four game road trip on the west coast. The Blues have won three of the last four and eight of their last 12 games. They have moved out of the basement of the Central Division and are currently in 11th place in the NHL Western Conference. You can hear tonight’s game on KSMO Radio.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will face the Waynesville Tigers Friday night at 8:00 at the St. James High School Gymnasium. You can hear the semi-final game on KSMO Radio.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host Licking Friday night starting at 6:00 with the JV game followed by the varsity contest. Salem is 12-2 on the year.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will be off until next Wednesday when they will face the Colorado Buffaloes. Missouri is 0-4 in the Big 12 so far this season.

Busch Stadium in St. Louis will be the site of Major League Baseball’s 2009 All-Star game announced on Monday. The 2008 All Star game will be played at Yankee Stadium in the final year of its’ existence.

Funeral services for Archie L. Norris of Salem, age 84, will be held today at 11:00 at the James  & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for George Laun of St. James, age 92 will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mitchell Lee Canady of St. Louis, age 45, will be held Friday at noon at Wilson Mortuary. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the VFW.

Funeral services for Melva Clara Thoele of Garland, TX, formerly of Salem, age 91, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
