The Dent County Commission met Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5590 and two trucks will be hauling brown rock according to District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell. He also said that two men would be putting up county road number signs, and also a speed limit sign and post on county road 2400. In District 2, Commissioner Gary Larson reported that two men would be cutting brush on Dent County Road 5240 and materials would be hauled to county road 3210. Larson stated that two men would be hauling rock from the creek and screening may occur if the rock is not frozen. Larson did say that work was being done on county truck #68. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles attended the CCAM Board meeting Wednesday in Jefferson City and reported the board heard a presentation from the Missouri Prosecutors Association about introducing legislation to create multi-county prosecutorial districts. This would help control the increased costs of prosecution for each county in the state. This discussion is all in its preliminary state. Skiles said the courthouse would be closed on Monday for Martin Luther King Day. He also wants to remind everyone to attend the Draft General Management Plan Open House tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Salem City Hall Auditorium located at 202 North Washington in Salem. Skiles said other public meetings would be held Tuesday, January 21st at the Van Buren Youth & Community Center in Van Buren; and on Wednesday, January 22nd at the Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center located at 11715 Cragwold Road in Kirkwood. Both of these meetings will also be held from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening as an Open House on the Draft General Management Plan with a Wilderness Hearing from 8:00 to 9:00 to follow. Skiles said the three alternatives all have some restrictions and would eliminate all gigging north of Pulltite and also eliminate the use of motorboats in those areas. In his opinion, the only logical choice is to take no action. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that her office, the assessor and the collector all balanced for the month on collections and abatements. She also said that copies of the 2014 proposed county budget would be available this morning at 8:00. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners would be Thursday, January 23rd at 9:00 in the morning at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
