The Salem R-80 Board of Education will hold their regular meeting at the District Administrative Offices Board Room tonight at 6:00 pm. After the approval of all previous minutes, bills, the food service report, attendance reports, the substitute list and program evaluations, the board will discuss communications and the superintendent’s report which will include a Board recognition, board candidate filings and a Judson Young Foundation donation. In new business, the board will discuss Fisher Tracks, approve ballot language for a proposed bond issue, discus MSIP 5, talk about EOC scores, discuss and approve budget revisions before declaring surplus property. The board will then vote to go into closed session. The regular meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.
The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Saturday, January 5th at 8:30 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Treatment Center on Grand in reference to someone trespassing. That investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year old Licking male for trespassing. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that afternoon at 3:35, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 20-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated and minor in possession of intoxicants. She was issued summonses to appear in court and released. Later on that afternoon at 4:30, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that a 15-year old female juvenile had been assaulted. Later that evening at 9:49, an officer transported a 64-year old Bixby male to New Hope Psychiatric Center in Sullivan in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Sunday, January 6th at 7:30 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to Gas Plus on Highway 32 East in reference to a theft of fuel. That investigation revealed that the driver of a silver Chevrolet truck pumped $77.01 in fuel and left without paying. Later that evening at 9:53, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of South Warfel in reference to a prowler. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem male for 1st degree trespassing and peace disturbance. He was issued summonses to appear in court and released. On Monday, January 7th at 8:45 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to Town and Country Bank in reference to counterfeit money. The investigation of the report revealed that someone unknown passed a counterfeit bill at McDonalds and it was received in a deposit at the bank. The counterfeit bill was retrieved and the report will be forwarded to the Secret Service. On Tuesday, January 8th at 11:16 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of South Warfel in reference to property damage. That investigation revealed that someone broke two globes on light poles valued at $92.00. Later that afternoon at 12:30, an officer was dispatched to the 1100 block of South Jackson in reference to damage to city property. That investigation revealed that someone broke the top of a concrete storm drain. Later on that afternoon at 4:47, an officer was dispatched to Moser’s Pharmacy in reference to a counterfeit bill. The investigation of the report revealed that someone unknown passed a twenty-dollar bill and it was noticed before going into deposit. The counterfeit bill was retrieved and the report will be forwarded to the Secret Service. An accident occurred at 11:55 Wednesday morning in Phelps County on Highway B north of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, 19-year old Alexandra Chambers of Hillsboro was driving a 2007 Ford Focus southbound when she lost control of the vehicle. The Ford then slid off the east side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned. Chambers suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Focus sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Spurgeon’s of St. James.

The Salem Tiger boys’ basketball team will be playing Newburg tonight in the St. James Tournament at 6:00. Salem is 5-8 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.
Jabari Brown and Earnest Ross each knocked down three 3-pointers en route to 15 points apiece as 17th ranked Missouri rolled past Georgia, 79-62, on Wednesday at Mizzou Arena. Alex Oriakhi added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers (13-3, 2-1 SEC), who were without star forward Laurence Bowers due to a sprained MCL in his right knee. Missouri, which has won three of its last four, will travel to Florida on Saturday to take on the 10th ranked Gators at 12:30 and you can hear it on KSMO.
The St. Louis Blues signed executive vice president/general manager Doug Armstrong to a five-year contract extension on Wednesday. Armstrong was named the NHL's GM of the Year last season after guiding the Blues to their first Central Division title since 2000. St. Louis was the second seed in the Western Conference, but lost in the second round of the playoffs. Armstrong was named GM in July 2010 after serving two seasons as vice president of player personnel.
