An accident happened in Dent County Sunday afternoon at 2:55 on Dent County Road 4050 about ten miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 Ford Edge driven westbound by 31-year old Lesley Gresham of Salem ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Gresham suffered serious injuries and airlifted to St. Johns Hospital in Springfield by Air Evac. Gresham was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Edge sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing in Salem.

An accident occurred Thursday night at 8:45 in Texas County on Route 137 about five miles South of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 Toyota driven by 27-year old Kristie Gorman of Licking was traveling northbound, encountered ice on shoulder of the roadway while negotiating a curve, lost control on the ice and overturned into the ditch. Gorman suffered moderate injuries and passengers 5-year old Lillian Gorman and 7-year old Madison Gorman suffered minor injuries. The Texas County EMS transported everyone to the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. The Toyota was totaled and removed from the scene by A1 Towing of Houston.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. During the hearing of persons, Jeff Meadows, Archer Engineering will update the Board on the I & I study that Archer Engineering is conducting and also on the DNR Compliance Agreement. City Attorney, William Camm Seay will then report on the public hearing held prior to the Alderman meeting regarding dangerous building located at 103 South Jackson, owned by James Cotner and 900 West Center owned by Raymond E. Norris, Jr. Director of Public Works and Engineering, Bill Huffman will then report on current projects and work report; City Administrator Clayton Lucas will update the Board on City happenings concerning the City, Alderman Jerry Randell, Kenneth Nash, Haydn Powell and Philip Giacomelli will give reports concerning City happenings, Mayor Gary Brown will present a letter concerning Highway 32 and MoDOT as well as other items concerning the City. During the introduction and reading of bill and resolutions; Resolution #2-2012 will be presented and is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a memorandum of agreement between the City of Salem and the R-80 School District to allow the William Lynch Elementary School access to the basement of the City Hall in cases of an emergency situation in which a full or partial evacuation is necessary. Resolution #3-2012 will also be presented and is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a voluntary compliance agreement between the City of Salem and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to be in compliance with the Missouri Clean Water Law, which must be signed and returned to DNR by January 31^st, and Resolution #4-2012, which is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement between the City of Salem and Randy and Faye Parker for the leasing of property located at 716 East Roosevelt owned by the City of Salem will be addressed. This is so the Mayor can sign the least agreement for the house located at 716 East Roosevelt. Then in new and miscellaneous business, the Board will then vote to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing pending litigation. The City of Salem Board of Alderman meeting is open to the public.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, a premiere law enforcement agency, is testing for new troopers. The Patrol is encouraging qualified individuals of all backgrounds to apply, and will offer testing at nine different locations in Missouri. Those who successfully complete testing will be eligible to continue in the selection process for the 96th Recruit Class, scheduled to begin training on January 16, 2013. The application deadline is March 4, 2012. To be eligible, candidates must possess a minimum of 60 college credits, two years of federal active duty military service with an honorable discharge, or two years of POST- certified, full-time law enforcement experience at the time recruit training begins. The starting salary for trooper is $3,034 per month while in training; $3,217 per month after six months; and $3,508 per month at two years of service. Other benefits include group health insurance, contributory retirement, career advancement, and more. The selection process is a multi-phase testing procedure including: written examination, a physical fitness for duty assessment, polygraph examination, background investigation, and oral interview board. After a conditional offer of employment, the applicant must successfully complete a medical examination (to include vision and hearing), psychological examination, a psychological interview, drug screening, and final applicant review.
