The City of Salem Board of Alderman will meet tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After the call to order, roll call and hearing of persons, will be the approval on the consent agenda, which will include the approval of the minutes from the previous meeting along with reports from the utility departments. At the last Board meeting, the Board postponed any decision concerning joining the Missouri Public Utility Alliance until this meeting, and they will address it in unfinished business. Aldermen Jim McDaniels, Mike Whitley, and Jim Jackson would like to discuss miscellaneous items involving the city. Alderman Bill Riley would also like to discuss sponsoring a youth traveling team along with miscellaneous items. The aldermen’s concerns will be followed by Mayor Gray Brown’s comments along with a report on the committee meeting to review Salem’s dog ordinance held earlier this month. New and miscellaneous business will include a discussion on Salem Housing Authority Board appointments. The terms of Charles Whitmire and Mary Stephens are set to expire on February 15th. Both board members have declined to accept another term. Therefore, the Board of Commissioners from the Salem Housing Authority would like to recommend that Clare Dent Underwood and Joe Brand fill these terms for a term of four years effective February 16th. Both Mrs. Underwood and Mr. Brand have stated that they will accept this appointment. Also in new business, it was noted that on the City’s pay scale, there are no provisions for servicemen. It is being requested that the Board of Alderman look into adding servicemen to the pay scale. The Board will discuss the Town Hall Meeting scheduled for February 13th for the purpose of meeting to identify opportunities for revitalization for businesses and commercial property owners. The Board will then approve bills presented by City Clerk Mary Happel and go into closed discussion for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.
