The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced that they have taken 31-year old Benjamin C. Ogden of Salem into custody on a felony Phelps County warrant. According to court records, Ogden was originally arrested on July 18^th, 2013 for 2^nd degree statutory rape. He then posted bond after having his bond reduced from $100,000 to $25,000 cash or professional surety on August 21^st, 2013. Then on Thursday, January 9^th of this year, Ogden failed to appear in court and a capias warrant was issued for his arrest. The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Ogden on Tuesday, January 14^th at 8:40 in the morning and took him to the Dent County Jail and held him on no bond.

A pavement repair project will require lanes on Interstate 44 in Crawford and Phelps counties to be closed at various times today and tomorrow. MoDOT crews will make pavement repairs in the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-44 through Crawford and Phelps counties between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. One lane will be closed in the work area. MoDOT appreciates the patience of travelers during the work. The Salem Police Department released their reports involving active warrants and theft of fuel. On Thursday, January 2^nd at 11:30 in the morning, an officer made contact with a 36-year old Doniphan male in the 100 block of East Fifth who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. That night at 10:06 pm, an officer made contact with a 24-year old female of Lecoma near Highway 32 and 19 who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem.  She was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Tuesday, January 7^th at 7:32 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Casey’s General Store on Highway 32 East in reference to theft of fuel.  Investigation of the report revealed the driver of a maroon Ford pumped $33.39 in fuel and left without paying.  An officer located the vehicle a short time later and the driver returned to pay for the fuel.  No charges were filed. State Auditor Tom Schweich announced that his office has started an audit of the Missouri Department of Corrections and the Missouri Department of Agriculture. State law gives the auditor the authority to audit state agencies. Persons who would like to provide information during these audits are encouraged to contact the State Auditor's office at 800-347-8597 or by email at moaudit@auditor.mo.gov.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released a couple of reports. On Thursday, January 2^nd the Dent County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a theft in the 6000 block of Highway 19 North. It was determine that two chainsaws and numerous checks had been taken without the owner’s consent. Some the checks taken were later cashed at a local bank. Through video surveillance suspect information was obtained. As a result of the investigation, 27-year old Stephen Mock and 22-year old Erica Hopkins, both of Salem, were arrested. Both are currently being held in the Dent County Jail. Mock’s bond has been set at $10,000 cash only and Hopkins bond has been at $7,000 cash only. On Monday, January 13^th deputies with the Dent County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Salem Police Department, conducted a consent search in the 1400 block of Highway 19 South. During the search deputies located 20 plastic baggies which contained a crystalline substance that weighed approximately 8 grams. The substance later field-tested positive for Methamphetamine. Also found in the residence was a semi automatic pistol. As a result, 35-year old Carl Norris of Holts Summit, 28-year old Amy Norris of Holts Summit, and 23-year old Justin Davis of Salem were arrested. Carl and Amy Norris are being held on a $75,000 cash only bond while Justin Davis is being held on $10,000 cash only.

Turkey hunters have until February 28^th to apply for managed hunts during the 2014 spring turkey season. This year’s offerings include managed hunts for archers, youths, and people with disabilities. Managed turkey hunts and application procedures are outlined in the 2014 Spring Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information booklet, which is available at www.mdc.mo.gov/7498. A print version will be available from hunting permit vendors statewide in mid-February. Missouri has some of the nation’s best turkey hunting, thanks to the cooperation of MDC, citizens, and landowners in a 25-year restoration program.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, January 16^th at the administrative boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and communications, Superintendent Steve Carvajal will update the Board on various building projects, the candidate filings to date, a Judson/Young donation and there will be Board recognition. Each principal from the respective buildings will update on happenings and then in new business the Board will address EOC scores. The Board will then adjourn the regular meeting and vote to go into executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.
