The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the courthouse. At the meeting, Ray Turner came in stating that he heard that James Fulton had submitted a petition for the county to abandon Dent County Road 2230 and make it into a private lane. Turner has property that goes along that road and to the west and south of the property owned by Fulton. He said that Mr. Fulton had offered to buy that section of his property that borders the road so that he could square up his property, but Turner will not sell it. He was asking what would be done now that there is a petition. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that the commissioners would get with the prosecuting attorney to make sure that the Missouri statutes are followed properly. He said he understood that a notice for a public hearing must be published in three public places for 20 days before the hearing, and persons that have property adjacent to the road must be notified. Turner was concerned if he needed to get up his own petition how much time would he have. Skiles said that nothing would be done until after the commissioners’ talk with the prosecutor. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that crews would be replacing downed road signs and working in the shop. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that his crews would be doing the same thing as District 1 workers as well as cutting brush on Dent County Road 2370. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he attended the PHA Board meeting, the MRPC External Relations meeting and the MRPC regular meeting last Thursday. He stated that representatives from Jo Ann Emerson’s office, Claire McCaskill’s office, Roy Blunt’s office and Blaine Luetkemeyer’s office were there. According to the Emerson camp, Jo Ann may step down from her position January 21st or 22nd depending upon legislation so that a special election could be held in April for her replacement. Skiles also said that he talked with Preston Kramer with MoDOT about the supposed approved increase in speed limit on Highway 72. Kramer said that although the road has been rated a “super 2” and that the speed limit could be increased to 65 MPH, that determination has not yet been made. He said that if there are concerns from the public about the speed limit increasing to 65 MPH, they should contact the MoDOT district office in Rolla, or call the 1-888-275-6636 MoDOT number. Skiles reported that he would be attending a County Commission Association of Missouri meeting Wednesday in Jefferson City to finalize plans for the commissioner training in February. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that the tentative county budget for 2013 would be ready today at her office and available for the public. She stated that the Youth Leadership Academy group would be at the courthouse Wednesday at 3:15, and that the courthouse would be closed on Monday, January 21st for Martin Luther King Day. The commissioners voted to hold their budget public hearing on Monday, January 28th at 7:00 in the courtroom at the Judicial Building. Commissioner Purcell then stated that there is interest in two of the county vehicles they no longer need. He wanted to advertise that the county has a 1996 Dodge 4x4 with 158,000 miles that has a 360 V-8 and it is an automatic. The county also has available a 1997 L9000 Ford Dump Truck that has a 3406 Cat and has 325,000 miles on it. Bids may be submitted for those interested in purchasing these vehicles to the Commissioners at the courthouse and the bids will be opened on January 24th at 10:00. Any and all bids may be rejected. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse.
