A Rolla, Missouri father and son have been indicted on Federal Child Pornography charges. According to United States Attorney Catherine Hanaway, 50-year old James May and his son, 23-year old Allen May were indicted on federal charges of possession of child pornography in separate cases. James H. May of Rolla was indicted by a federal grand jury December 31^st, on five felony counts of possession of child pornography. Allen C. May also of Rolla was indicted by a federal grand jury the same day, on three felony counts of possession of child pornography. Both men were arrested Wednesday and are expected to appear in federal court later this week. If convicted, each count of possession of child pornography carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. Hanaway commended the work on the case by the Rolla Police Department, Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Regional Computer Crimes Education and Enforcement Group and Assistant United States Attorney Rob Livergood, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their monthly meeting on Thursday, January 15^th at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and consent agenda including approval of the minutes from the precious meeting, along with bills, the food service report, attendance reports and substitute list, will be communications. Superintendent Steve Bryant will then address Board recognition, the Board candidate filings, Commissioner King’s obituary, the legislative forum and the Salem R-80 Public Schools Foundation donation. In new business, the Board will hear a CIA-5^th grade student presentation on publishing a book, program evaluations on At Risk/Alternative programs and the Parents as Teachers program. The Board will address a six-month budget comparison, the district long range plan/vision, the economic stimulus package, consider a resolution for a bond election and the Board of Education Committee assignments. The Board will then adjourn and go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing personnel and student discipline. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Salem FFA Chapter will be holding a blood drive in the Agriculture Shop today starting at 8:30 this morning and lasting until 2:30 this afternoon. The Ag Building is located on West Center Street and is the last building on the southwest corner of the Salem R-80 campus. To be eligible to donate blood, you must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and present an ID. A feeding & storing ethanol co-products for beef cattle field day, sponsored by the University of Missouri Extension, the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council and the South Ozarks Premier Beef Marketers, LLC, will be held on Saturday, January 17^th at the Barnitz Farms located in Lake Spring. This field day will feature a tour of storage facilities, feeding equipment and backgrounding facility where ethanol co-products are currently being used and evaluated on 230+ head of cattle. Representatives from the University of Missouri Extension and Missouri Corn Merchandising Council will be on hand to answer your questions. Lunch will be provided by the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council. To get to the Barnitz Farms, from Salem, take Highway 72 West about ten miles to Dent County Road 2080, turn left on 2080, and continue two miles, bear left at the fork and the Barnitz Farms will be on the right. The Dent County Schools, Salem R-80, Oak Hill R-I, Green Forest R-II, Dent-Phelps R-III and Northwood R-IV will be closed on Monday, January 19^th. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 20^th.

The Winter Youth Basketball signups for boys and girls in the 1^st through 6^th grade will be held today and Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Salem Freedom Activity Center. Another signup will be held on Thursday, January 22^nd and Friday, January 23^rd also from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Salem Freedom Activity Center. The cost is $15.00 per child. The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will be at Willow Springs tonight to face the Lady Bears in an SCA contest. Salem is 1-1 in the SCA and 5-8 on the year.

Laurence Bowers scored 16 points off the bench to lead the Missouri Tigers to a dominating 107-62 victory over the Colorado Buffaloes in a Big 12 clash at Mizzou Arena. DeMarre Carroll, J.T. Tiller, Marcus Denmon and Justin Safford all tallied 13 points apiece in the win for Missouri (14-3, 1-1 Big 12), with Carroll pulling down 11 rebounds as well. Kim English also achieved double figures in the meeting with 12 points for the Tigers. Missouri will host Iowa State this Saturday afternoon at 12:15.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Colorado Avalanche tonight starting at 7:30 at the Scottrade Center. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO Radio. The Blues just came off a 1-2 Canadian road trip and are 6-14 on the road.
