A Rolla, Missouri father and son have been indicted on Federal Child Pornography charges. According to United States Attorney Catherine Hanaway, 50-year old James May and his son, 23-year old Allen May were indicted on federal charges of possession of child pornography in separate cases. James H. May of Rolla was indicted by a federal grand jury December 31st, on five felony counts of possession of child pornography. Allen C. May also of Rolla was indicted by a federal grand jury the same day, on three felony counts of possession of child pornography. Both men were arrested Wednesday and are expected to appear in federal court later this week. If convicted, each count of possession of child pornography carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. Hanaway commended the work on the case by the Rolla Police Department, Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Regional Computer Crimes Education and Enforcement Group and Assistant United States Attorney Rob Livergood, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
