The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, Commissioners Bobby Simpson and J.J. Tune both reported that roads are frozen, so no grading would be done. Commissioner Simpson did say that District 1 crew members would be removing debris from ditches and catching up on routine maintenance. Commissioner Tune said that District 2 crew members would also be removing debris from ditches, catching up on routine maintenance and patching some rough areas on roads in the Sligo area. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended a MRPC meeting last Thursday in St. James and at that meeting the 2008 MRPC Federal Priority List was approved. Skiles also said that he would be attending a Damage Assessment Training Meeting in Rolla today at 1:00. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that as of Monday morning, 77 people have either absentee voted or requested for an absentee ballot for the primary. Curley also wanted to remind everyone that the Dent County Fire House is the new polling location for residents in the East Spring Creek District and the last day to request an absentee ballot is January 30th and the last day to absentee vote is February 4th. At the previous meeting, Ferranto Roofing was awarded the job of repairing part of the courthouse roof for $5300.00. The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving a burglary and DWI’s. On Friday, January 11th at 8:23 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report of a burglary, which was reported to have occurred at the Anutt Country Store.  Entry was gained by breaking the glass to the front door.  Reported taken was a cash register containing $150.00 in cash, a Missouri Lottery ticket dispenser and an undetermined amount of cartons of cigarettes. On Sunday, January 13th at 08:01 in the morning a Dent County Sheriff's Deputy while on routine patrol conducted a traffic stop on Highway 19 in Salem.  Investigation led to the arrest of a 34-year old male for Driving While Intoxicated and No Proof of Insurance. Also on Sunday, January 13th at 08:01 in the morning the Dent County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop in Bunker.  Investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year old male for Driving While Intoxicated, Operating a Motor Vehicle in a Careless and Imprudent Manner and Possession of Intoxicating Liquor by a Minor. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts. On January 1st at 10:00 in the evening, an officer was conducting an investigation of thefts from the BP Convenience Store. Investigation of the report led to the arrest a 25-year Salem female for stealing items valued at $2,962.62. She was released pending the application for warrants. On January 4th at 11:30 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The report revealed person(s) unknown entered the garage of a residence in the 900 block or West First and took a Coleman 8-horsepower generator valued at $500. On January 7th at 5:00 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the BP Convenience Store in reference to a theft of fuel. The report revealed that person(s) unknown drove a white Chrysler PT Cruiser in and pumped $33.28 in fuel and then left without paying. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board met yesterday afternoon to discuss information and data provided by their auditor. The meeting was held mostly in closed session.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will travel to Owensville tonight to face the Dutchgirls with the JV action starting at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow. Salem enters the game with an 11-3 mark.

St. Louis and Toronto officially swapped third basemen Monday, with Scott Rolen heading to the Blue Jays for Troy Glaus. The deal went through following approval from Major League Baseball and the teams' medical staffs. Rolen, a seven-time Gold Glove winner, waived his no-trade clause and the Cardinals explored trading Rolen during the Winter Meetings in December, to no avail. Rolen, the 1997 rookie of the year winner, is a career .283 hitter with 261 home runs and 1,012 RBI in 1,505 games between Philadelphia and St. Louis. Glaus has 277 homers with 778 RBI and a .254 average in 10 seasons with the Angels, Diamondbacks and Blue Jays.

Funeral services for Keith B. Edgar of St. James, age 56, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Choices For People.

Funeral services for Ronnie Lee Conway of Licking, age 56, will be held today at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the Ronnie Conway Family.

A Memorial Mass for Billy Brown Turley of Rolla, age 84, will be held Wednesday at the St. Patrick Church in Rolla at 11:00. Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick Church or Camp David of the Ozarks. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Rosie Stricklin Calder of Steelville, age 84, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Neals Creek Cemetery in Bixby.

Funeral services for T.R. Havens of Doolittle, age 76, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Roach Cemetery in Doolittle. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

Funeral services for Teresa (Decker) French of Meridian, Idaho, formerly of Salem, age 51, will be held Wednesday at Dent County Memorial Chapel at 2:00. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute.

Funeral services for Sara F. Hanes of St. James, age 80, will be held Saturday, January 19th at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will also be Saturday from 10:00 am until service time. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date for Earl Stanley Johnson of Salem, age 53. All the arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
