The Dent County Fire Protection District released reports for three calls on Thursday, January 8th. The first call came at 3:54 in the morning at the Shawnee Mac Lakes. A total of five firefighters responded for a vehicle accident for general cleanup. Units were back in service at 4:21 that same morning. The second call was at 10:17 that morning on South Warfel Street. A total of five firefighters responded to investigate for a carbon monoxide incident. Upon further investigation the furnace was malfunctioning and caused the problem. All units were back in service at 11:27 that morning. The third call came in at 11:08 late that night. A total of seven firefighters responded provide mutual aid to the Steelville Fire Department for a building fire on Cherryville Road in Cherryville. Upon arrival the Steelville Fire Department notified the Dent County Fire Protection District that their services were not needed. All units were back in service at 12:45 in the early morning on Friday, January 9th.

Roadwork continues in the KSMO listening area. In Dent County, roadside maintenance will take place on Route 119 between Highway 32 and the end of state maintenance through Friday, January 23rd. Bridge maintenance will take place on Route H over Barnett Prong, west of Dent County Road 2340 through Friday, January 16th.  Pavement and drainage improvements are nearing completion on Route J between Highway 72 and Highways 32/72. Contractors will continue work on driveway entrances when weather permits. Bridge maintenance will take place on Route DD over Dry Fork, west of County Road 2330 through Friday, January 16th. One lane will be open, and crews will flag traffic through the work areas. In Phelps County, roadside maintenance in the westbound lanes on I-44, east of Martin Springs Drive will begin this week. One westbound lane will be open through the work area. The project is scheduled for completion in May. Pavement and sidewalk improvements continue on Highway 63 between Route BB and Route CC.  Occasional lane closures are likely in the work area. Roadside maintenance will take place on Route M between Highway 63 and Route J through Friday, January 23rd. One lane will be open, and crews will flag traffic through the work area. The Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) and the city of Rolla are teaming up to offer a workshop for those interested in learning about city governments. The workshop, which will include information on city council, planning and zoning commission and board of adjustment duties and responsibilities, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 15th at The Centre located at 1200 Holloway Street in Rolla. There is a $20 registration fee to attend. Speakers include attorneys Paul Rost and Erin  Steele of Cunningham, Vogel and Rost, a Missouri law firm formed specifically to represent only municipalities and local government interests. Individuals interested in attending may contact Mary Ann Gorrell at 573-265-2993 to make a reservation.

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the appointment of Sergeant Cody H. Fulkerson as the new public information and education officer for Troop I. The appointment was  effective December 21, 2014. Sergeant Fulkerson replaces Sergeant Danny J. Crain who retired from the Patrol after 33 years of dedicated service to the Troop I area and the citizens of Missouri. Fulkerson was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on January 1, 1992, and was assigned to Troop I, Zone 1, serving Phelps, Maries and Dent counties. He was promoted to corporal in May 1997, and served as the assistant zone supervisor of Zone 4, serving Pulaski and Maries counties. In August 1997, Fulkerson transferred to Troop E, Zone 4, serving Cape Girardeau and Bollinger counties. In September 1997, he transferred to Zone 7, serving Scott and New Madrid counties, and was designated as the assistant zone supervisor. In February 1999, he was appointed to the Missouri state training team for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program (D.A.R.E.). In June 2001, he was promoted to sergeant. Fulkerson was appointed to the Governor’s Security Division in November 2006. In September 2010, he transferred back to Troop I, Rolla, and was designated zone supervisor of Zone 1, serving Phelps and Maries counties. Fulkerson is a 1982 graduate of Dexter Senior High School in Dexter, Missouri. Fulkerson is a veteran of the United States Air Force and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the Community College of the Air Force. Prior to being appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Fulkerson worked for the Rolla, MO, Police Department as a police officer from 1986 to 1992.  He has a son, Aiden, 2, and resides in Rolla.

Zayne Kyser scored 12 points and Zack Elliott added 10 more as Salem beat Sullivan Tuesday night at the SHS gym, 44-40. The Tigers are 6-5 on the year and will host Mountain View Friday night starting at 6:00 with the JV game.

David Backes and Vladimir Tarasenko each posted a goal and an assist to give the St. Louis Blues a 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Jaden Schwartz and Alexander Steen each scored a goal for the Blues, who have won five straight. Jake Allen allowed two goals on 15 shots. The Blues will host the Detroit Red Wings Thursday night at 7:00.

Aaron Harrison scored 16 points and No. 1 Kentucky, which lost some support in the polls following its first rocky week of the season, answered its critics by spanking Missouri 86-37 on Tuesday. Wes Clark and Keanau Post both had 10 points to lead the Tigers (7-9, 1-2). Missouri will host Tennessee Saturday afternoon starting at 4:30.

After helping the Royals to the postseason for the first time in 29 years, Kansas City rewarded manager Ned Yost with a one-year contract extension on Tuesday. The new deal will take Yost through the 2016 season. Kansas City won 89 games in 2014 to clinch a wild card spot, then won his first eight postseason games, capping it with the American League title.

Funeral services for Nadine R. Laney of Rolla, age 91, will be this morning at 11:00 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Funeral services for Agnes Romine of St. James, age 101, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Rose Marie James of Salem passed away December 11, 2014 at the age of 67. There will be a Memorial Mass on Friday, January 16th at 1:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. Interment will follow.

Graveside services for Arah M. Elliott of St. Robert, age 90, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Ozark Hills Memorial Garden in Rolla. There will be no visitation. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

Funeral services for Donald Lee Pryor of Boss, age 83, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Heartland Hospice of Fairview Heights, Illinois.
