Ava's Jacey Swofford hit a bankshot as time expired that tied the game for the Ava Bears and propelled them to a 65-58 win in overtime over the Salem Lady Tigers. Salem led most of the game but could not put the game away as Ava outscored Salem in the second half, 37-30, and then in overtime, 8-1. The Lady Tigers were led by Payton Curley with 16 points followed by Savannah Hanning with 14 points. Kaleigh Nash added 11 points all in the second half for Salem as they fall to 4-8 on the year and 0-1 in the SCA. The Lady Tigers will be at Houston Thursday night at 6:00.
The Salem Tiger Boys basketball team will be in Sullivan tonight to play the Eagles. Salem is 4-5 on the year and JV will start play at 6:00 with the varsity to follow. You’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com.
The St. Louis Blues will host the Phoenix Coyotes tonight at the Scottrade Center. The Blues are 31-8-5 on the year and sit three points back of Chicago for the lead in the Central Division. You can hear the game on KSMO starting at 6:30. KSMO will break away for the Salem game but rejoin Blues’ hockey following the conclusion of the Salem game.
St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster Mike Shannon has agreed to a multi-year contract extension. Shannon, who played for the Cardinals from 1962-70, will join fellow broadcaster John Rooney for the majority of Cardinals games on KMOX and the Cardinals Radio Network, with the exception of approximately 50 road games in 2014. In 2014, Shannon will begin his 56th year as part of the Cardinals' family and will start his 42nd season in the broadcast booth. The St. Louis native was a member of the 1964 and 1967 World Series championship teams as a player and joined the broadcast team in 1972.

Funeral services for Ann J. Simmons of Rolla, age 59, will be held at 11:00 Wednesday morning at the Rolla Chapel on James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ridgeview Christian Church.
Funeral services for Lena Mae Wells of Salem, age 85, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Miner Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ohlman Missionary Baptist Church.
Private graveside services for Gertrude La Verne McAllister of Salem, age 87, will be held at a later date at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
