The Salem Police released their reports involving a shoplifter, counterfeiting and forgery. On January 4th at 12:10 in the afternoon, an office was detailed to the Dollar General Store in reference to a shoplifter. The report led to the arrest of a 49-year old Salem female for stealing. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On January 8th at 7:13 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the Delano Convenience Store. The report revealed that person(s) unknown passed a counterfeit 50-dollar bill. On January 9th at 2:17 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Burger King. The report revealed that person(s) unknown passed a counterfeit 50-dollar bill. At 3:52 the same afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a forgery. The report led to the arrest of a 39-year old Salem male for forgery. He was incarcerated pending the application of warrants. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Dent County Service Unit of The Salvation Army would like to announce that they have raised a total of $20,743.95 successfully exceeding this years Christmas Campaign goal of $18,000. The local Salvation Army Board and this year’s Christmas Campaign Co-Chairs, C. Clark and Verda Leonard, would like to thank everyone who made monetary donations at the kettles or through the local mail appeal. They also extend their greatest appreciation to the dedicated volunteers that took time out of their busy holiday season to ring the bells at the kettles. Your continued generosity will be distributed throughout 2008 to those less fortunate in Dent County.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will hold a special meeting at 5:00 today to review information from the auditor. The meeting is open to the public.

An accident happened at 12:40 Sunday morning in Reynolds County on Highway 72 about five miles east of Bunker. According to the highway patrol, a 2007 Scion TC driven by 21-year old Jacob Ard of Bunker went off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Ard suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Advanced Health Care in Ellington by the Reynolds County Ambulance. Ard was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Scion TC was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Wisdom’s Towing. A summons was issued to Ard for driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving and having no insurance.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers outscored the Cabool Bulldogs in the first half Friday night 31-12, and then cruised to a 55-39 win to improve to 10-5 on the year. Salem was led by C.J. Smith and Cody Wofford as they each scored 15 points, and Taylor Sirois who netted 14 and grabbed nine rebounds. Salem is 1-0 in the SCA and will face the St. James JV in the first round of the St. James Tournament tonight at 7:30. KSMO will NOT air this game, but will cover the semi-final game between Salem and the winner of the St. James and Fatima contest at 8:00.

Keon Lawrence led a balanced attack with 18 points as the Missouri Tigers defeated the 12th-ranked Texas Longhorns, 97-84, in the Big 12 opener for both clubs at the Mizzou Center. Jason Horton added 16 points and Stefhon Hannah had 15 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Tigers (11-5, 1-0 Big 12), who had six players score in double figures on their way to their second straight win and sixth in eight outings. Marshall Brown recorded 14 points, DeMarre Carroll had 12 points and seven boards and Leo Lyons registered 10 points for Missouri, which used 12- of-26 shooting from three-point range to end a nine-game slide to the Longhorns. Missouri will face Iowa State Wednesday night at 6:30.

Alexander Edler scored the only goal of the shootout, giving the Vancouver Canucks a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues, at Scottrade Center. Christian Backman and Brad Boyes each had a goal and assist for St. Louis, which has lost two in a row after a three-game winning streak. Legace turned aside 22 shots in the loss. Keith Tkachuk also scored for the Blues who will face Chicago Wednesday night.

Funeral services for Ronnie Lee Conway of Licking, age 56, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the Ronnie Conway Family.

A Memorial Mass for Billy Brown Turley of Rolla, age 84, will be held Wednesday at the St. Patrick Church in Rolla at 11:00. Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick Church or Camp David of the Ozarks. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Rosie Stricklin Calder of Steelville, age 84, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Neals Creek Cemetery in Bixby.

Funeral services for T.R. Havens of Doolittle, age 76, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Roach Cemetery in Doolittle. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church or Shriners Hospital for Children.

Funeral services for Teresa (Decker) French of Meridian, Idaho, formerly of Salem, age 51, will be held Wednesday at Dent County Memorial Chapel at 2:00. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute.

Funeral services for Sara F. Hanes of St. James, age 80, will be held Saturday, January 19th at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will also be Saturday from 10:00 am until service time. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date for Earl Stanley Johnson of Salem, age 53. All the arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
