The Dent County Fire Protection District released reports for the first of the year. On Thursday, January 1st at 10:16 in the morning, a call came in for a building fire on West Acuff. A total of 11 firefighters responded and upon arrival, there was heavy smoke coming from the eaves, doors and windows of the house. The main part of the fire was found in the kitchen and attic area. After the fire was extinguished, an investigation found the fire started around an electrical outlet in the floor, traveled through the wall and into the attic. All units were back in service at 12:35 that afternoon. On Sunday, January 4th at 10:41 pm, a call came in on Dent County Road 4110. A total of five firefighters responded and found the fire out upon arrival. The fire was determined to be a chimney or flue fire and was confined to the chimney or flue. Units returned back to service at 11:20 that same night. On Tuesday, January 6th at 8:02 in the evening, a total of seven firefighters responded to West Center Street in reference to a chimney or flue fire, confined to the chimney or flue. All units were back in service at 8:56 pm. A couple of calls came in on Wednesday, January 7th. The first was at 5:47 pm on Dent County Road 3260. A total of 12 firefighters responded to and extinguished a fire in a mobile home used as a fixed residence. Units were back in service at 6:20 pm. The second call also came in at 6:02 on County Road 6160. A total of 12 firefighters responded to the call to investigate a chimney or flue fire, confined to the chimney or flue. All units returned to service at 8:40 that night.

A representative from The Department of Veteran Affairs will be at the American Legion Post today from 12:30 to 4:30. Any combat veteran or their family in Dent County that has outstanding issues with the VA or any issue connected with military service, can come and meet the problem solving Vet Center team. Veterans and their families can also obtain information on services that are available to Veterans as well as their families. If anyone would like to meet with team they should call the American Legion Post at 729-3710 and have their name listed.

The Salem Police Department has submitted the following reports. On Thursday, January 2nd at 10:58 PM, a vehicle was stopped for due to an investigation of an accident that had occurred near the 500 block of Highway 32 East. That investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 47-year old male of Salem for driving while being drugged and leaving the scene of an accident. The suspect was issued summonses to appear in court and released. On Sunday, January 4th at approximately 4:45 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a purse and its contents valued at approximately $550.00 from a patron at Walmart. The purse was later located and recovered near Dilworth and Missouri Highway J with the wallet that was inside missing. The report is under investigation. On Thursday, January 8th at approximately 10:45 in the morning, an officer transported a 25-year old female of Salem from Crawford County Jail to Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers moved to 10-3 on the season with a 68-36 win over the Bunker Lady Eagles Friday night Payton Curley netted 27 points including 5-5 from the 3-point line to lead the Lady Tigers followed by Savannah Hanning with 18 points. Baylee Bilyeu had three blocks in the game and now holds the program's single season blocks record with 40 on the season. Salem will host Mountain Grove tonight with the JV game at 6:00 followed by the varsity contest. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. It will also be recorded for Fidelity Channel Local 6.

Cinmeon Bowers posted a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Auburn Tigers over the Missouri Tigers, 85-79, in an SEC matchup at Auburn Arena. Keith Shamburger led Missouri (7-8, 1-1) with a game-high 21 points, while Wes Clark added 16 points and Tramaine Isabell finished with 12 points as the squad had a two-game win streak come to an end. Missouri will be at Kentucky Tuesday night at 8:00. KSMO will not air that game due to Salem Tigers Boys Basketball game followed by St. Louis Blues Hockey.

T.J. Oshie scored the lone goal in the shootout to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 5-4 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Oshie, the Blues' first shooter, patiently skated through the slot, got Cam Ward to bite on a fake and lifted a shot into the top of the net. Jake Allen made Oshie's effort stand as he stopped all three shooters, including a slick glove save on Alexander Semin to end the game. Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz, Alexander Steen and Patrik Berglund all scored in regulation for the Blues, who won their fourth straight game. Allen stopped 19-of-20 shots in relief of Brian Elliott, who allowed three goals on 10 shots during the first period. The Blues will face Edmonton Tuesday night.

The NHL released its All-Star game roster on Saturday. Representing the St. Louis Blues will be Vladimir Tarasenko and Kevin Shattenkirk. The All-Star game will be held January 25th at Columbus.

Funeral services for Jane Frances O’Keefe of Rolla, age 76, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick Catholic Grade School or ALS Association. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Dormilee Fay Watson of Salem, age 78, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Miner Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Miner Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mary Sue Tallant of Rolla, age 71, will be held today at 1:00 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Adams Cemetery in Rolla.

Funeral services for Peggy C. Maledy of Salem, age 79, will be Tuesday at 1:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Funeral services for Nadine R. Laney of Rolla, age 91, will be Wednesday at 11:00 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Rolla Chapel. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
