Extremely cold weather and slippery driving conditions have cancelled school for Oak Hill R-1, Green Forest R-2, Dent-Phelps R-3, Bunker R-3, Northwood R-4 and Salem R-80 as well as GED classes for today. The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a City of Salem warrant and a burglary. On Thursday, January 6^th at 4:26 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Poplar Bluff to transport a 20-year old Salem male who was being held on a City of Salem warrant. He was taken into custody and transported to the Dent County Jail where he was incarcerated. On Friday, January 7^th at 4:45 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to a residence in the 200 block of South Hickory in reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown forcibly entered an outbuilding and took items valued $98. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary, which is still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their January meeting Tuesday evening at the fire station. After approval of the agenda and a review of the minutes from the previous meeting with no changes, the 2011 budget was reviewed and approved, the bills were reviewed and checks were signed, and the 2011 truck payment was reviewed and approved for payment in January. The Board then reviewed the calendar with approval, election dates were noted and the Board then reviewed the reimbursement report. In old business, it was reported that the station inventory is still in progress with Chief Nash acquiring prices, the roof repair has been completed and it was noted that the show room area would need to be addressed, and the annual audit has been scheduled tentatively for May. Chief Brad Nash then reported there has been no word on the FEMA radio grant and the vehicle grant has been declined. The Board then set their February meeting for Thursday, February 24^th, due to schedule conflicts. The meeting was then adjourned.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a traffic violation, stealing, property damage, and a disturbance. On Monday, January 3^rd at 5:25 PM, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 21-year old female of Raymondville for driving while having her license suspended. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Tuesday, January 4^th at 10:50 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Salem Upper Elementary in reference to stealing. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 29-year old female of Salem for keeping fundraiser funds. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Later that afternoon at 1:08, an officer was dispatched to the Salem City Park in reference to property damage to the outhouse located near the pavilion on the north side of the park. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown damaged the door, toilet, and urinal. The value of the damage is approximately $750. Later on that afternoon at 2:43, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to property damage. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown damaged the paint on a gold 2002 Chevrolet truck that was parked in the 300 block of East Bryan. The value of the damage is approximately $350. At 8:12 Wednesday night, January 5^th, an officer was detailed to the Salem Bowling Center in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the detention of a 16-year old male of Jadwin for 3^rd degree assault on a law enforcement officer. He was released to his mother and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer for further review.
