The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse for their regular meeting. Bernie English was at the meeting and submitted a letter to the commissioners concerning priorities in the county budget. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4210, 5550, 6540 and 6550. He also said that two trucks would be hauling brown rock and that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5600. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4020 and 4260, while materials will be added and grading would be done on Dent County Road 4280. Larson went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 3170 and 4060. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said the commissioners would all be attending the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce meeting today at SBU, and that he would be attending the MRPC meeting Thursday night. Skiles reported that the sales tax revenues received in January were down $2,768.42 from last January’s figures. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that the last day to sign up for the February election would be Wednesday. She stated that the last day for a ballot to mailed out would be February 1st and the last day to vote absentee would be February 6th. Curley went on to report that the clerk and treasurer balanced on all accounts for the month of December. Representative Don Wells from Cabool came in to introduce himself to the commissioners as he stated that he would be a Republican candidate for the new Senatorial District that would include Dent County beginning 2012. Also attending the meeting were Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings, Salem Police Chief Keith Steelman and City Administrator Clayton Lucas to discuss a draft proposal for the expansion of the shooting range. Highlights of the draft agreement would be that the city would provide the manpower and equipment for the project while the county would provide fill dirt. There are other obligations by the city and county to keep the area clean and pick up their brass when finished. Lucas is supposed to bring in proposed drawings of the expansion and let the county know about how much fill dirt would be needed after meeting with City Engineer Bill Huffamn.  At the last meeting, Rob Heberer of Erb Equipment Co. came in to discuss the buy back options for the graders for the R & B Dept. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Thursday, Decembers 29th at 7:34 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to Pizza Inn in reference to stalking. The investigation of the report revealed that a 20-year old Salem male had been stalking a 17-year old Salem female and approached the victim in a violent and threatening manner. After further investigation and a search warrant was served, he was taken into custody for stalking and harassment and incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Friday, December 30th at 9:33 at night, an officer was dispatched to Phil-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation revealed that a male and female took alcohol from the store. On Saturday, December 31st at 11:59 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to an accident involving a vehicle hitting a utility pole. The investigation of the accident led to the arrest of a 56-year-old Salem male for driving while drugged and careless and imprudent driving. He was transported for medical attention and will be issued summons to appear in court upon release. On Sunday, January 1st at 4:34 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the police station in reference to two missing female juveniles. The investigation revealed that the two juveniles had left a residence without permission and were later located later that morning at 6:30. The report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office for further review. On Monday, January 2nd at 10:46, an officer was contacted at the police station in reference to a violation of a full order of protection. The investigation revealed that a 47-year old Salem male had possibly violated an order of protection. Later that afternoon at 3:15, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of East Third in reference to shots fired into a residence. The investigation revealed that person or persons unknown had fired a small caliber bullet into a residence. Further investigation revealed the projectile entered a glass window and ricocheted off a light fixture and into a piece of trim. Later on that night at 8:10, a 29-year old Salem male was transported to that Phelps County Regional Medical Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. Even later on that night at 9:06, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of Iron Mountain Road in reference to two juvenile children that had been left alone. The investigation led to the arrest of a 45-year old Salem female for endangering the welfare of a child. She was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Tuesday, January 3rd at 11:23 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of East Hawkins in reference to property damage. The investigation of the report revealed that person or persons unknown broke a glass window valued at $75 on an unattached garage. The Industrial Development Authority of the County of Dent will conduct their Annual Meeting on Wednesday, January 11th at the Bank of Salem Boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the minutes from the prior meeting, there will be a review of financial statements for the period ending December 31, 2011. There will be an election of officers for 2012-13, the approval for payment of bills presented, a modification of the note payment to the bank and a discussion on the status of a building at #2 Pines. The Board will address any other business that may be presented and the meeting will then adjourn. The Annual Meeting of the Industrial Development Authority of the County of Dent is open to the public.

The Salem Tiger Boy’s basketball team will be playing in Sullivan tonight starting with the JV game at 6:00 with the varsity contest to follow. Salem is 4-7 on the year and you’ll be able to hear the varsity game on KSMO and ksmoradio.com.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Montreal tonight to face the Canadiens at 6:30. The Blues are 24-12-5 on the year and KSMO will broadcast the beginning of this game, cut away for the Salem game, and then play back the 3rd period after the Salem game.

The Alabama Crimson Tide avenged their lone loss of the season and won the BCS National Championship as a result, using a stifling defense and kicking their way past LSU, 21-0, for the program's 14th title. Alabama held the top-ranked and previously unbeaten Tigers to five first downs and 92 total yards.
