The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4210, 5450, 6620 and 6660. He reported that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5070 and workers were at the county shed checking on and preparing for any adverse weather. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading had been done on Dent County Roads 2150, 2313, 2390, 2405, 3253, 4140, 4150, 5200 and 6130. He also said that brush would be cut on county roads 2240, 2400, 3300 and 3331. Larson reported there was a washout in the Boss area on county road 5330 and that the grader was down. Larson reported that road signs were missing again from county road 3290, and that a resident had cut brush out of a fence line on county road 3222 and piled in the road and that the person responsible had been told not to pile their brush on the county road. Larson also reported that on county road 6120 there was an issue of someone removing gravel from the road, several bucket loads had been removed and appeared to have been put in a drive way and that was also taken care of. Larson reported to the Commission that MFA had offered to lock in a price for diesel for a year and Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles proposed to bid out the diesel for a year and accept bids before deciding. Skiles also reported that he and the other commissioners would be attending the meeting and 40th anniversary celebration this Thursday afternoon at the MRPC in St. James as well as working on budgets. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she and Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams balanced on all accounts. Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks was in attendance and wanted the commission to know that she plans on attending as many meetings as possible during the early transition of the new office appointees. Dent County Coroner Gina White stopped by the commission to discuss her concerns and her budget for 2009. Prosecuting Attorney Sparks will be looking into the state statutes for certain requirements and needs for the coroner and will report back to the commission next Monday morning at 10:00. Earl Welch from the University Missouri Extension Council then stopped in to thank the commission for the support last year and that they are looking forward to even more this year. In 2007 the Extension Council received $34,950 in support, in 2008 the amount was $35,500 and the request for 2009 is $37,000 in support from Dent County. Commissioner Dennis Purcell was appointed to the tourism committee and Commissioner Gary Larson was appointed to the Extension Council. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be at 9:00 Monday morning at the courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 1:25 Thursday evening in Dent County on Dent County Road 3300 about ten miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, 80-year-old Carl Allsman of Salem driving a 1996 Buick Park Avenue, lost control of his vehicle and ran off the right side of the road and overturned. Allsman suffered moderate injuries and was taken by Salem EMS to Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Buick was totaled in the accident and was towed from the scene by Whitaker Towing.

Ronald Leon Robinson pled guilty to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition according to US Attorney Catherine L. Hanaway and Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney Courtney George. The 48-year old Robinson of Edgar Springs pled guilty to one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, in connection with an incident on February 8, 2008, in which shots were fired from Robinson’s residence. Police reported that Robinson fired two shots at a police officer. He appeared before United States District Judge Carol E. Jackson in St. Louis. Robinson now faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on March 31, 2009. Hanaway commended the work on the case by the Edgar Springs Police Department, the Rolla Police Department, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Office, the Phelps County Prosecutor’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and Assistant United States Attorney Cristian M. Stevens, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Brittany Herode scored ten points to lead the St. James Lady Tigers past the Salem Lady Tigers Thursday night at the High School Gym, 40-23. Jennifer Herndon led all Salem scorers with six points. Salem is now 4-8 on the year and will host Cabool Monday night in SCA play.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will be at St. Clair tonight to face the Bulldogs starting with the JV game at 6:00 followed by the varsity contest at about 7:15. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Missouri Tigers will open their Big 12 season tomorrow afternoon at Nebraska. Missouri is 13-2 going into the game that will begin at 1;00. You can hear the game on KSMO starting at 12:30 with the pre-game show.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Vancouver tonight at 9:00 to start a three game road trip. They will then travel to Edmonton to face the Oilers Sunday night at 7:00. You can hear both games on KSMO Radio.

Florida State won their second national championship in three years as they beat Oklahoma, 24-14.

Funeral services for Sgt. Mark D. Reynolds of Rolla, age 40, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in St. James. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial. All arrangements are under the direction of James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Mark Kevin LaPlant of Bunker, age 46 will be held today at 1:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Greeley Cemetery near Bunker.

Graveside services for Lois Marie Wooliver, age 77, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at Stone Hill Cemetery near Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 9:00 at the Kutis Funeral Home on Lemay Ferry Road in St. Louis.

Funeral services for Harry J. Keim Jr. of St. James, age 93, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Funeral services for Donna Faye Allen of Salem, age 70, will be held Monday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00.
