The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of December. During the month, they wrote 13 traffic tickets, 48 warning tickets and three equipment repair orders. They issued 15 summons to appear in court and one fugitive warrant. The Salem Police Department investigated 15 accidents, one assault, two domestic assaults, and five reports of driving while intoxicated. The Police Department also investigated eleven reports of stealing, nine reports of property damage, one burglary, one report of sexual misconduct, one report of trespassing, one report of unlawful use of a weapon, one report of a lost/stolen plate, two reports of counterfeiting, four reports of disorderly conduct, and six reports of leaving the scene of an accident. They also investigated one report of possession of marijuana and one report of possession of drugs amphetamine. The police received 1,419 calls for service during the month and handled 64 walk-ins to the station. The Salem Police Department redirected 59 calls to the animal control officer. They also spent 15 hours in court testifying, and six hours as court bailiff. The calls in December included 28 calls for escorts, nine 9-1-1 calls, three intoxicated driver investigations, two calls for a suspicious person or vehicle, five calls for peace disturbances, nine ambulance assist calls, one call for alarms sounding, three calls for fights in progress, three domestic dispute calls, and five wreckers were needed. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 9,604 miles during the month. The Salem Police Department arrested 13 males and 2 females for a total of 15 arrests during the month of December.
An accident occurred Saturday evening at 11:40 in Dent County on Highway 32, seven miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, the accident occurred when a 1995 Toyota pickup, driven by 16-year old Wesley Kinder of Licking, failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the right side of the road and struck an embankment. Kinder suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the Salem Ambulance. Kinder was cited for driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving, minor in possession of alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt. The Toyota pickup sustained extensive damage and was left at the scene to be removed by the owner.
The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday beginning at noon. The program will be on the upcoming 100-Acre Wood Road Rally. The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce will also be electing new board members at this meeting. Lunch will be $7.00, and provided by Huckleberry’s Diner. Solomon McNeal scored 20 points for the second straight game and help the Salem Tigers to a 58-47 win over the St. Clair Bulldogs in St. Clair. C.J. Smith netted 12 points and Taylor Sirois scored ten points and snared 9 rebounds for the Tigers who are now 5-7 on the year. They will be home tomorrow night to face the Eagles of Sullivan. The JV game will start at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow. You can hear that game on KSMO.
The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will be in Willow Springs tonight to face the Lady Bears in an SCA tilt starting with the JV game at 6:00 followed by the varsity game at about 7:20. You can hear that game on KSMO Radio starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Phillip Karr.
J.P. Dumont scored the game-winner late in the third period to lift Nashville over St. Louis, 3-2, at Gaylord Entertainment Center. Vernon Fiddler and Jason Arnott also tallied for the Predators, who have won 12 straight games against St. Louis. Alexander Radulov recorded two assists in the victory. Chris Mason stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced to earn his 17th win of the season. Martin Rucinsky and Lee Stempniak posted goals for the Blues. Nashville is 4-0 this year against St. Louis. Goaltender Manny Legace made 21 saves in defeat. The Blues will be in Columbus tomorrow night at 6:00 on KSMO.
Joseph Addai ran for 122 yards and a touchdown, while the much-maligned Indianapolis defense allowed just 126 total yards as the Colts dominated Kansas City, 23-8, in the first round of the AFC playoffs at the RCA Dome. Trent Green finished just 14-of-24 for 107 yards with two interceptions and a touchdown for the Chiefs (9-8), who are now 0-5 in playoff games since last competing for the AFC Championship in 1993. Larry Johnson rushed for just 32 yards on 13 carries while Tony Gonzalez caught four passes for 25 yards and a score for Kansas City.
Wesley Johnson scored on a tip-in with just 1.6 seconds to play, giving the Iowa State Cyclones a 66-65 victory over the Missouri Tigers in a Big 12 bout at Mizzou Arena. Marshall Brown led the Tigers as he scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed six rebounds. Stefhon Hannah added 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, while Matt Lawrence contributed 10 points in the loss as Missouri falls to 11-3 on the year.

Funeral services for Don Riebel of Westerville, Ohio, formerly of Steelville, age 63, will be held today at 11:00 at the Presbyterian Church in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.
Funeral services for Maria Danielle Wilson of McHenry, Illinois, age 41, will be held today at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the Wishon Cemetery in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the Wilson family.
A memorial service for James Cooper of Rolla, age 85, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in St. James. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
Funeral services for Martha “Lorene” L. (Gamblin) McCormick, of Hillsboro, formerly of Salem, age 67, will be held today at 12:30 at the Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home in Arnold. Visitation will be from 10:30 until service time. Interment will be in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Funeral services for Lena Edith Marchi of St. James, age 96, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Rosati, Mo. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 tonight at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Rosati.
Funeral services for Everett Eugene Phipps of Cherryville, age 69, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 9:00 today. Interment will be in the Martin Cemetery in Cherryville.
