This past Saturday the Ozark Heritage Project sponsored an afternoon and evening of free boat rides on the Upper Current River. The event took place at Pulltite Campground in northern Shannon County and was intended to highlight one of the specific areas that will be severely impacted if the Proposed Alternative B of the new General Draft Management Plan for the Ozark National scenic Riverways. Several of the almost fifty guests commented on the lack of wake left by the outboards which now utilize water pumps—“jets”—on the lower units to stay even higher above the submerged gravel.  The Proposed Alternative B would totally eliminate outboard motors years round on the section of Current River above Pulltite and a similar section on Jacks Fork. It would also further restrict motor sizes on the rest of the river. Several guests came as families and were treated to boat rides, a trip to the restored cabin just downstream and Cave Springs several miles upstream.
