The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00. After approval of the agenda, City Administrator Clayton Lucas will update the Board on various issues concerning the city along with Alderman Kenneth Nash, Hayden Powell, Phillip Giacomelli and Ryan Whitaker. City of Salem Mayor, Gary Brown will then address items concerning the city and Ray Walden, Economic Development Director will give a report on happenings concerning economic development in Salem. During the Introduction and Reading of Bills and Resolutions, Bill #3265, an ordinance authorizing the Mayor to sign a cost share and municipal agreement between the City of Salem and the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission on the Highway “J” project, will be presented; and Bill #3266, an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances of the City of Salem pertaining to the mandating of the use of vacation time will also be presented. Then Resolution #1-2013, a resolution adopting an amendment to the City of Salem employee handbook’s sick leave policy will be presented per the Board request from a previous meeting. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 9:15 Saturday morning in Crawford County on Highway 49 about four miles south of Cherryville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 35-year old Michael White of Farmington was attempting to pass a vehicle on a hillcrest when he swerved back into his lane to avoid an oncoming vehicle. White lost control and the vehicle slid off the roadway, struck a rock embankment, overturned, and caught on fire. White and two occupants of Cuba, 27-year old Nugget Copling and 18-year old Bethany Ferguson, suffered minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene. Two other occupants from Steelville, 38-year old Tammy Sexton and 35-year old Drayton Sexton, suffered serious injuries and were flown by Air Evac to the Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur. No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Pontiac was totaled and removed from the scene by Miles Towing.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a search warrant, theft of fuel, and auto theft. On Thursday, December 27th at 1:57 in the afternoon, Officers of the Salem Police Department along with the Dent County Sheriffs Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol executed a search warrant at a residence in the 800 block of West Third. As a result of the search, a 38-year old male, a 23-year old male and a 24-year old female all of Salem, were arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine. The 23-year old male will also be charged with possession of marijuana. All suspects were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Friday, December 28th at 4:56 pm, an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store on East Highway 32 in reference to the theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed that the driver of a gray Chevrolet truck pumped $25.13 in fuel and left without paying. Then at 8:19 that night an officer responded to Walmart in reference to the theft of a car. That investigation revealed that an unknown male stole a tan 1989 Ford Crown Victoria from the parking lot and traveled east on Highway 32. Shortly after the reported theft, an officer located the vehicle near Highway 32 and Warfel. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 45-year old male of St. Louis, was arrested for auto theft, driving while intoxicated and driving while having his license revoked. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Anyone with any information regarding the theft of fuel report can contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

There will be Community Blood Center of the Ozarks blood drive Tuesday from 1:00 to 6:00 at the First Baptist Church at 201 North McArthur. To give blood, you must weight at least 110 pounds, be in good health and present the required ID.

The Linn Wildcats hit 11 of 12 free throws down the stretch in the 4th quarter to seal a 55-43 win over the Salem Tigers in the Consolation Championship game at the Owensville Tournament Saturday afternoon. Chad Elliott had 18 points to lead the Tigers who drop to 3-7 on the year. The Tigers will be home to face the Sullivan Eagles Tuesday night starting at 6:00 with the JV game with the varsity game to follow. You’ll be able to hear that game on KSMO Radio, online at ksmoradio.com, and can be seen at fidelitylocal6.com.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will be at Ava tonight for SCA play with the JV contest starting at 6:00 and the varsity game will follow. Salem is 7-6 overall and 1-0 in SCA play.

Phil Pressey scored a game-high 26 points and added five assists as No. 12 Missouri held off Bucknell for a 66-64 win. Laurence Bowers scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds while Alex Oriakhi added nine points for the Tigers (11-2), who will open up SEC play Tuesday when they host Alabama.

The National Hockey League and the Players' Association reached an agreement on the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement to end the lockout that has been in place since mid-September. The breakthrough came after a 16-hour marathon negotiating session that lasted all day Saturday and into Sunday morning. The NHL announced the agreement in principle shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday. The league said the new labor package, which will reportedly be for 10 years, must be "drafted and formerly approved by both parties" before it can be finalized.

The Kansas City Chiefs and general manager Scott Pioli have mutually agreed to part ways. Pioli had been the general manager since January 2009. The Chiefs have also hired Andy Reid as their new head coach and head of football operations. Reid was fired last week after 14 years as head coach of the Eagles.

The Kansas City Royals signed pitcher Blaine Boyer to a minor league contract on Thursday. Over 233 major league appearances with the Braves, Cardinals, Diamondbacks and Mets, Boyer has a career record of 9-14 with a 4.81 ERA and 162 strikeouts against 94 walks.

Funeral services for Euell “Butch” L. Chambers of Rolla, age 85, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the Rolla Church of Christ. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Martha L. Shahan of Salem, age 75, will be today at 2:00 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Memorials may be made to the Shahan Family.

Funeral services for Erma Dean Bryant of Salem, age 82, will be held Tuesday at 3:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem.

Funeral services for Ethel Cleone Coad of Salem, age 81, will be Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 until time of service.  Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Stone Hill Cemetery.
