The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers were shut down last night by a stifling St. James defense as Salem lost to St. James, 54-13 ending their three-game winning streak. Salem falls to 4-8 on the year. The Salem 9th grade Boys Basketball Tigers were overwhelmed by the Waynesville Tigers Thursday night at the Upper Elementary School gym, 49-14 being outscored 30-4 in the second half. They will play tomorrow at Rolla along with the 8th grade team starting at 10:00.
The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers return to the road as they will be in St. Clair tonight to face the Bulldogs in non-conference play. Salem enters the game with a 2-7 record. The City of Salem Winter Youth Basketball Program is just around the corner. The Winter Youth Basketball Program is for boys and girls currently enrolled in grades 1st through 6th. Sign-ups will be held at the Salem Freedom Activity Center located at 1201 West Rolla Road in the Foyer today from 4:00 to 6:00 pm; Saturday, January 8th from 9:00 until noon and then again next Thursday and Friday, January 13th and 14th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Tyler Bozak netted the game-winning goal in the shootout, as the Toronto Maple Leafs blew a three-goal lead but rebounded to nip the St. Louis Blues, 6-5, at Air Canada Centre. Matt D'Agostini capped a three-goal rally, which eventually sent the game beyond regulation for the Blues. Alex Steen, David Backes, and Eric Brewer were among the goal scorers in the loss. Jaroslav Halak started between the pipes, but was pulled after he yielded four goals on 19 shots. Ty Conklin made 11 saves in relief but suffered the loss. The Blues will host the New York Rangers Saturday night at 7:00 on KSMO Radio.
Missouri junior guard Marcus Denmon was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 30 list on Thursday afternoon as announced by the Los Angeles Athletic Club. The midseason list was selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board and is comprised of 30 student-athletes who, based on their performances in November and December, are the early frontrunners for college basketball's most prestigious honor.
Southeast Missouri State Head coach Tony Samuel was rewarded the 2010 Eddie Robinson Award, which honors the Football Championship Subdivision's Coach of the Year.
