The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, Judge Kelly Parker presented the budget request for the Circuit Court and Juvenile Court. The Circuit Court budget request was the same as last year with an increase of $500 for new equipment as their fax machine and copier needs to be replaced. Parker said that the Juvenile Court requested monies are actually $1,907.93 less than last year’s budget as the parties have been able to work things out before going to court, saving attorney fees and court costs. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 5690 and 5490. He said that culverts would be cleaned out in the Jadwin area, a worker would be hauling rock, and two workers would be moving items back into the completed part of the Road and Bridge Department building. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that two men would be hauling rock while two others were repairing brush cutter #6 and then cutting brush on Dent County Road 2070. He said that men would also be working at the gravel plant and helping at the building. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that the commission sends their condolences to the families in the Lecoma area that lost loved ones in the tornado last week. He also commended the emergency management responders to the Lecoma area last week including the Lenox Fire Department, Dent County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Emergency Management Director Brad Nash, and road crew members who helped clear the roads and help out those affected. Skiles said that he met Tuesday with Gene Oakley who is the Deputy Director of Missouri Broadband Now. Oakley said that the state received $311 million dollars to have 95% of the state get high-speed Internet access within five years. Also attending the meeting were Nick Girondo who is a Fisheries Management Biologist from the Department of Conservation, and Thom Haines form the US Forest Service. They are applying for monies to rebuild the bridge over Sinkin Creek on Dent County Road 5680. Girondo said that he applied for a $25,000 grant from the state and is going to apply for another grant of about $10,000 to help fund the roadwork. Haines said he applied for an LMCG grant of $100,000 that comes from their Legacy Fund Dollars for the project. Haines said that he should know more about the grant in March, while Girondo said that he should know more about his requests in April. The county would have to contribute $25,000 to the project but that could be in the form of “in-kind” work. Tommy Marcak from MoDOT was also in attendance and he had a county road inventory book that needs to be reviewed by the commission. Marcak said that they need to make any additions or corrections on the maps and he said that the state would like to have the maps back by the end of January. However, the road inventory that he had still had the “old” three-digit Dent County Road numbers and they will all have to be changed to the new four-digit numbers. The commission asked if they could request an extension until the end of February to complete the inventory and he said he would see what he could do. At the last meeting, GS&M representatives including Joe Weber, Karen Weber and Joyce McCrerey came in to discuss the jail and justice center study. Joe Brand from Edward Jones was also in attendance to visit about public financing. The commission agreed to participate in a Department of Economic Development Disaster Planning Initiative through the MRPC. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams presented bids for the Bank Depository Agreement for 2011. The Bank of Salem bid .5% and Progressive Ozark Bank bid 1.05%. The Commission approved going with the Progressive Ozark Bank bid by a 3-0 vote. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
