The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving burglary. A total of seven people have been arrested and charged with felony burglary in the 2nd degree. Very late the evening of Saturday, January 2nd, 39-year old Maria Jeanee Burton of Jadwin was charged with six-felony counts of burglary in the 2nd degree, with bond set at $30,00cash only. Under Miranda, Burton gave a written statement detailing her role in the burglaries and implicated others and their roles in each of the burglaries. Also arrested on Saturday was 22-year old John Carl McDonald of Salem and he was charged with five-felony counts of burglary in the 2nd degree with bond set at $25,000 cash only. In the very early morning hours of Sunday, January 3rd, also arrested were 20-year old Nathan Cole Hartman of Lenox, and charged with five-felony counts of burglary in the 2nd degree with bond set at $25,000 cash only; 20-year old Jonathan Buck Edwards of Salem, charged with five-felony counts of burglary in the 2nd degree with bond set at $25,000 cash only; 35-year old Trisha Mendenhall of Salem, charged with three-felony count of burglary in the 2nd degree with bond set at $15,000 cash only; 38-year old Larry Ray Malone of Salem, charged with one-felony count of burglary in the 2nd degree with bond set at $7,000 cash only and 17-year old Caleb Daniel Manion of Salem, charged with one-felony count of burglary in the 2nd degree with bond set at $7,000 cash only. According to the statements given by each of the individuals, the burglaries occurred between late October and early November 2009 up to the present on Dent County Roads 4210, 5240, 5480 and 6633. The individuals were each able to give a detailed written statement that took law enforcement to separate locations within Dent County to recover some if not all of the stolen property items.

Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap and Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings announced that 50-year old Jackie Light of Dent County plead guilty to federal charges of illegal possession of ammunition. Light pled guilty to one-felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of ammunition. He was in possession of ammunition in early January 2009, and due to his previous felony convictions, he is forbidden by law to possess firearms and ammunition. Light appeared before United States District Judge Charles A. Shaw, who set sentencing for April 6, 2010. He now faces a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000. This case was investigated and prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which seeks to prevent violent crime through enforcement of federal firearms laws, such as the law prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms and ammunition. In addition to Sheriff Stallings, Reap commended the work on the case by Dent County Prosecuting Attorney, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and Assistant United States Attorney Michael Bert, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Saturday, December 26th at 2:15 pm, firefighters responded to a house fire on County Road 6300. Upon arrival firefighters found the house fully involved, with half the house on the ground.  A total of 10 firefighters assisted the Jadwin Volunteer Fire Department and were released at 4:18. At 4:38 that same afternoon, 10 firefighters were dispatched to North Walker Street in Salem where it was determined that the resident to have a thrown breaker. There were two space heaters and a microwave on the one breaker and it appeared to be an electrical overload with no fire. At 9:42 that night, eight firefighters were dispatched to K Highway for a lift assist with the Salem Memorial District Hospital. On Sunday, December 27th at 11:52 pm, a total of six firefighters arrived on East Roosevelt Street in Salem where it was determined that there had been an unintentional sprinkler activation, with no fire. On Monday, December 28th at 11:59 in the morning, firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on South Hickory Street. A total of nine firefighters arrived on the scene to find a Ford Bronco, two-tone in color, with the front engine compartment fully involved. Heavy smoke was coming from the front passenger area and the vehicle was about 20-feet from a LP gas tank. The fire was extinguished and the scene was under control at 12:31.

Four different Salem players hit double figures as the Tigers routed Licking Tuesday night, 67-45. Salem was led by Dex West with 13 points followed by Phillip Moser and Steven Morton with 12 points each, and Jacob Kettner finished with 10. Salem has now won two straight games and will be home for the only time this January when they play St. Clair Friday night.

The St. Clair Lady Bulldogs took advantage of Salem Lady Tiger turnovers en route to a 50-35 win Monday night. Jennifer Herndon led the Lady Tigers with 15 points. Salem is 7-5 on the year and will be at St. James Thursday night.

The Missouri Tigers will host Savannah State tonight at the Mizzou Arena starting at 6:30. Missouri enters the game with a 11-3 mark on the year. Missouri has won their last six games. You can hear the game on KSMO.

The St. Louis Blues hit the road in an attempt to break their five game losing streak at San Jose where they face the Sharks starting at 9:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Outfielder Matt Holliday has come to terms on a reported seven-year contract worth $120 million with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals organization said through a release that the two sides had agreed to a multi-year deal, but Holliday indicated the length and value of the contract earlier in the day in a radio interview with ESPN. The team expects to make an official announcement in the next 48 hours after Holliday passes a physical. The pact also reportedly includes a full no-trade clause and a club option.

Funeral services for Wandul Taylor of Salem, age 85, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Faith Mission.

Funeral services for Milton “Milt” Yeary of Steelville, age 75, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in Steelville. Memorials may be given to the Steelville Ministerial Alliance.

Funeral services for Horace W. “Pop” Copeland of St. James, age 80, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Highgate Baptist Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the High Gate Baptist Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Copeland Family.

Funeral services for Pamela Sue Webber of Salem, age 46, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday night. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Home Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Eileen Patricia Sybert of Rolla, age 74, will be held Saturday at 5:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 3:00 until service time. Memorials may be made to the 1st Christian Church Greentree in Rolla.
