An accident occurred Friday night at 7:40 in Dent County on Route C about two miles south of Lenox. According to the highway patrol report, a 2013 Ford Escape driven by 58 year-old Geneva D. Burgdorf of Tacoma, Missouri, ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. The Ford sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Lucas Towing of Edgar Springs. According to the report, Burgdorf was wearing a safety restraint and sustained minor injuries, but sought her own medical treatment and was transported by private vehicle. 

An accident occurred Friday at 9:20 p.m. in Texas County on Route CC about ten miles north of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 1994 GMC Sierra, driven by 25 year-old Joshua R. Marr of Licking, ran off of the roadway and overturned. Marr was ejected from the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Texas County Memorial Hospital. The GMC was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by Jay’s Towing. 

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will hold their regular meeting this evening at 7:00 at the City Hall Council Chambers. After approving the consent agenda, the board will hear the report from City Administrator Ray Walden about items concerning the city before Mayor J.J. Tune gives his report. The board will then make an appointment to the Salem Public Library Board. The Library Board is recommending Nancy Major as the candidate to replace Meredith Craig on the Library Board. Following the appointment, the meting will be adjourned. The meeting tonight is open to the public.

The following is a listing of general highway maintenance and construction work in the mid-Missouri area for the two-week period starting today and lasting through January 16, 2015. Weather conditions may postpone the work schedule. Many projects will include lane closures that could cause delays. In Crawford County, roadside maintenance will be done on Highway 8 between Highway 19 and Route Y, Highway 19 between Highway 8 and Lindburg Road, Route M between Highway 8 and Route VV and Route BB between Highway 8 and the end of state maintenance. In Dent County, driveway entrance work will be done on Route J, and roadside maintenance will be held on Route HH between Highway 32 and the end of state maintenance, and in Phelps County, tree trimming and roadside maintenance will be done on Highway 68 between Highway 8 and County Road 4160. MoDOT reminds motorists to buckle up, slow down, follow posted signs and drive safely through work areas. For more information about a project, please contact MoDOT at 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636).

The Salem Police Department has submitted the following reports. On Wednesday, December 24th at 1:57 in the afternoon, an officer transported a 28-year old male of Salem from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department to the Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. Later that evening at 6:33, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 36-year old female of Salem for stealing merchandise valued at $34.00. The suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Saturday morning, December 27th at 1:27, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 26-year old male of Salem for driving while being intoxicated. The suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Sunday, December 28th at 5:00 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1200 block of South Louise in reference to a burglary. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown entered the residence by force and took numerous items valued at $22,280.00. The report is under investigation and there is a reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons that committed the burglary and theft. Later that same evening at 6:44, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of North Iron in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown entered the residence by force and took items valued at $120.00. The report is under investigation. The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host the Mountain View-Liberty Lady Eagles tonight in SCA play. The JV game starts at 6:00 with the varsity match beginning at about 7:30 at the SHS Gym. Salem enters the game with a 7-3 record.

T.J. Oshie recorded his second career hat trick and the St. Louis Blues scored a season-high seven goals in a 7-2 rout of the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. Oshie added an assist in the onslaught, and Alexander Steen and Kevin Shattenkirk posted their own four-point performances with a goal and three assists apiece. Brian Elliott, making his second start since returning from a knee injury, made 18 saves for St. Louis, which had dropped five straight on the road coming in. The Blues were coming off a 4-3 loss in Anaheim on Friday night. St. Louis will be at Phoenix tomorrow night at 7:30 to face the Coyotes.

The Missouri Tigers picked up their 6th win of the year Saturday by defeating Libscombe in a non-conference game by the score of 72-60. Johnathan Williams III scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Missouri followed by Keith Shamburger with 15 points and Tramaine Isabell with 14 points. Missouri is 6-7 on the year. The Tigers will face LSU on Thursday night at 5:30.

Funeral services for Susan A. Florence of Salem, age 70, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Susan Florence funeral fund.

Memorial services for James Jenschke will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Salem Christian Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent county Memorial Chapel.

Graveside services for Stanley B. Derryberry, age 67, will be Tuesday at 1:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. All arrangements are under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem. 

Funeral services for Delores Mae Brazzle of Rolla, age 75, will be held at 1:00 Tuesday at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held today from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery in Rolla.

Funeral services for Harriet Ruth Crouch of Salem, age 83, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 Tuesday morning until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God.

A celebration of life for Rosemary Dillon of St. James, age 85, will be held Sunday, January 11th from 1:00 to 4:00 at the St. James Golf and Country Club. Memorials are suggested to the St. James Memorial Public Library. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
