The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, both District Commissioners said it was too cold to grade and that general maintenance was going to be done to the vehicles. District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell also reported that his crew would be repairing a pump on a brush cutter and that fuel conditioner was going to be added to the fuel of the heavy equipment so it will start during these extremely cold days. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that the commission would be working on the 2010 budget for the county. At the last meeting, the commissioners agreed to payoff the Dent County Annex early for $51,764.47, which would come out of the Capital Expense in the General Revenue Fund. This would pay off the note about 3.5 years before it was due. Their next meeting will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting Monday evening at the city hall council chambers. At the meeting, the board approved the recommendation by Sean Curley from the Planning and Zoning Commission to allow the annexation of 1426 West Franklin owned by Phil and Ruth Krueger. The matter will be brought before the alderman at the next meeting in the form of an ordinance. Park and Recreation Director Greg Nash gave the report on the park board meeting held on December 22nd before Mayor Gary Brown gave his report. He said that the airport fuel system should be in full operation by the middle of next week, and that bids have been posted for an agency to handle the collection of past due bills. Brown said that he and engineer Bill Huffman would meet with Integrity Engineers about the water problem at the Salem Housing Authority units near the football field at 3:00 with a public meeting to follow at the Salem Housing Office at 4:00 to discuss a possible solution. The mayor gave the year-end report for the nuisance officer and there were 887 animal calls, 404 nuisance violations, 202 dogs and 118 cats taken to the animal shelter, and 129 dead animals destroyed. The mayor then read a letter from Show-Me Power that said that effective March 25, 2013, they would no longer provide electric service to the City of Salem under the current contractal obligations. This letter was sent to ALL municipalities that Show-Me serves. The mayor said that the city is still looking at the Bio-Mass electrical generation, but he also said that Senator Frank Barnitz is going to meet with all the cities in his district that would be affected by this decision to possibly form their own coop. The board approved paying the liability insurance for the city to Savers Insurance through Town and Country Insurance Associates for $143,935 that included airport liability, crime liability, general liability and terrorism coverage. After the bills were approved, the meeting was adjourned.
