The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for the month of December. For the month there were 70 9-1-1- calls, in which all were responded to with eleven of the calls being prank calls. The Department served 161 papers consisting of 89 civil papers, 64 criminal papers and eight notices to vacate, plus they served 17 felony warrants and 23 misdemeanor warrants. During the month, there were six drug arrests and fifteen domestic disturbance calls were addressed. The Sheriff’s Department issued eleven tickets, made one DWI arrest and assisted on 13 traffic accidents. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department also conducted two death investigations. For the month of December, the Sheriff’s Department investigated six burglaries, four assaults, nine thefts and four property damage reports. The Department spent 89 hours working in court and 14 hours testifying. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department handled a total of 537 calls during the month and made 35 community policing appearances. In the Dent County Jail Report for December, there were 39 prisoners incarcerated for the month with an average daily total of 10. There were six transfers to the Department of Corrections, eleven transfers to or from other departments, and there were three transfers to a mental facility. During the month of December, the sheriff’s department drove a total of 15,594 miles on criminal investigations, patrolling and prisoner transportation.

In a special meeting, called by Mayor Gary Brown and held the end of December by the City of Salem Board of Alderman, the Board agreed that for property and casualty insurance for the City, to go from three different insurance companies to one company that would cover everything as before. By going with Missouri Rural Services through Town & Country Insurance Associates, the City will have the same coverage as before, with a few minor deductible changes but at a savings of $18,906.

The Dent County Service Unit of The Salvation Army would like to announce that they have successfully exceeded this years Christmas Campaign goal of $16,500. The local Salvation Army Board and this year’s Christmas Campaign Chairman, City of Salem Mayor Gary Brown, would like to thank everyone who made monetary donations at the kettles or through the local mail appeal. They also extend their greatest appreciation to the dedicated volunteers that took time out of their busy holiday season to ring the bells at the kettles. Your continued generosity will be distributed throughout 2007 to those less fortunate in Dent County.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will be off until Monday when they travel to Willow Springs in an SCA conference game.

The St. Louis Blues will be back in action tonight as they will host the Chicago Black Hawks again at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The Blues are 5-1-3 in their last nine games. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio tonight at 7:00.

The Blues have a unique promotion on Saturday, January 13th, when they will be giving away free concessions from noon until the end of the second period when they play the Los Angeles Kings. Everything except for alcoholic beverages will be provided for no charge. The game with the Kings starts at 1:00 Saturday afternoon.

JaMarcus Russell threw for a career-high 332 yards and two touchdowns as fourth-ranked LSU scored 27 consecutive points en route to trouncing No. 11 Notre Dame, 41-14, in the 73rd Sugar Bowl at the Louisiana Superdome. Russell added a rushing touchdown for the Tigers (11-2), who had an astonishing 578 yards of total offense and won their seventh straight game to end the season. Darius Walker had 163 all-purpose yards for the Fighting Irish (10-3), who dropped their ninth straight postseason tilt. Notre Dame has not won a bowl game since the 1994 Cotton Bowl. Walker finished with 132 yards rushing and 31 receiving. Brady Quinn, who placed third in the Heisman voting, was pedestrian for the Irish. The quarterback completed just 15-of-35 passes for 148 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Funeral services for Virginia Piazza of St. James, age 99, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Immaculate Conception Church in St. James. Interment will be in the Rosati Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Rosati Cemetery or for mass.

Funeral services for Barbara Jane Comfort of O’Fallon, formerly of Davisville, age 48, will be this evening at 7:30 pm at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. No interment was given.

Funeral services for Margie S. Bobbitt of Salem, age 57, will be held Friday at 10:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Ellen Roney of Salem, age 84, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 on tonight. Interment will be in the Greeley Cemetery in Bunker. Memorials may be made to the Greeley Cemetery Association.

Funeral services for Stuart D. Wilson of St. James, age 72, will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 at St. James Christian Church of St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 at James & Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Wilson family.

Funeral services for Mina C. Steiner of Rolla, age 80, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation is from 10:00 until service time. A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Interment will be in the Rolla Cemetery.

Funeral services for Viola Mae Beckett of Salem, age 83, will be held Sunday in the Murray Funeral Home in Cheston, Ohio. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the New Harmony Cemetery.
