An accident occurred at 6:03 Monday evening in Crawford County on Highway 19 at the South edge of Cuba that took the life of a Steelville man. According to the highway patrol report, a 1994 Ford Ranger driven by 44-year old Wayne Taylor of Steelville crossed the centerline and struck a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by 20-year old Micah Tate of Cuba, head on. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway following the impact. Tate suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene by Crawford County Coroner Paul Hutson and his body was taken to the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville. Taylor wasn’t wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident, but it was unknown if Tate was wearing his. Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene by Mile’s Towing of Cuba.

An accident happened Saturday afternoon at 4:15 in Dent County on Highway 32 about seven miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, 23-year old Jake A. Guerra of Viburnum, while driving a 2002 Dodge Neon eastbound, apparently fell asleep and traveled off the left side of the roadway where the Dodge struck an embankment and overturned. Guerra suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Guerra was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The Dodge did sustain extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

An accident happened New Year’s morning at 12:35 on Highway 49 at Highway 32 in Bixby. According to the highway patrol report, 24-year old Shandra Luttrell of Viburnum was driving southbound when she failed to stop for a stop sign, crossed over the road and struck an embankment. Suffering minor injuries were two passengers: 27-year old Nicole Wren of Steelville and 34-year old Dawn May of Viburnum. Both were taken by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Luttrell did not suffer any injuries. The vehicle sustained moderate damages and was removed from the scene by Abney’s Towing of Viburnum. Luttrell and Wren were wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident while May was not.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agendas, in reports, Director of Public Works & Engineering Bill Huffman will be updating the Board on current and future projects. City Administrator Clayton Lucas will update the Board on miscellaneous items concerning the city as well as Alderman Jerry Randell, Kenneth Nash, Haydn Powell and Philip Giacommelli. Mayor Gary Brown will then discuss miscellaneous items concerning the city as well. During the introduction and reading of bills and resolutions, Resolution #1-2012 authorizing the mayor to execute a memorandum of agreement between the City of Salem and Barnes, Henry, Meisenheimer & Gende, Inc. for providing professional services to conduct an electric rate study will be discussed. Bill # 3249 is an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinance of the City pertaining to mobile home dwellings being placed parallel to the street, which was requested by the Building Inspector. Bill #3250 is an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances of the City setting the appointment and term of the Building Commissioner. In new and miscellaneous business the Board will discuss a budget adjustment in the Electric Fund for the needed electrical safety and training for four (4) Electric Department employees. Clayton Lucas will then update the Board and the public on insurance services that were discussed at the previous meeting. Lucas will also be updating the Board regarding the DNR Parks Grant. The Board may then vote to go into a closed session. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers lost to the St. Clair Lady Bulldogs by the score of 47-25 on Monday to fall to 2-10 on the year. The JV will participate in the Waynesville JV tournament starting tonight.

The Salem Tiger Boy’s Basketball team will be playing in Licking tonight starting with the JV contest at 6:00 followed by the varsity game. Salem is 3-6 on the year and you’ll be able to hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and ksmoradio.com.

Marcus Denmon drilled a go-ahead three-pointer with a minute to play, and the clutch shot carried 8^th ranked Missouri to a 75-68 victory over Old Dominion Friday night. Denmon finished with 19 points, all but two of which he scored in the second half for the Tigers (13-0). Kim English added 16 points for Missouri, while Phil Pressey and Ricardo Ratliffe both scored 14. Missouri will open up Big 12 play tonight as they will host Oklahoma and you’ll be able to hear the start of game at 6:30 on KSMO, then they will cut away for the Salem game and air the 2^nd half on a tape delay basis afterwards.

Jimmy Howard made 31 saves to record his career-high fourth shutout of the season, and the Detroit Red Wings extended their home dominance with a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Brian Elliott stopped 28 shots for the Blues, who suffered a season-high third straight loss. The Blues will host the Phoenix Coyotes tonight at 7:00.

The San Francisco 49ers locked up the number 2 seed and a first-round bye, but had to hold off a late-game rally by the Rams to earn a 34-27 victory Sunday. Kellen Clemons threw for 226 yards and a touchdown. The Rams (2-14) took a fairly large step backward from last season, when they went 7-9. On Monday the Rams fired head coach Steve Spagnuolo and general manager Billy Devaney.

Kyle Orton, who was released by the Broncos in November, threw for 180 yards for the Kansas City Chiefs to beat out the Denver Broncos on Sunday, 7-3. Dexter McCluster ran for the only touchdown of the game as the Chiefs finish the year with a 7-9 record.

The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly signed kicker Ryan Succop to a five-year contract on Friday and placed running back Jackie Battle on IR.

Graveside services for Lawrence ‘Larry’ Adair of Craig, CO and formerly of Rolla, age 50, will be held today at 1:00 at the Rolla City Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 11:00 until time of service at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

A visitation for Paul Williams Jr. of Rolla, age 32, will be held today from 4:00 to 6:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the family of Paul Williams Jr.

Funeral services for Terry William Parker of Rolla, age 66, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Rolla Church of Christ. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Vienna City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Highway Patrol Honor Guard.

Memorial service for Leslie Dawn (Adkins) VanMeter, of Joplin and formerly of Salem, age 42, will be at 5:30 p.m. January 5, 2012 at Salem Lutheran Church, Salem. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. January 5, 2012 at Salem Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the VanMeter family, 701 County Road 4120, Salem, Missouri 65560.
