Four Salem Tigers scored in double figures as the Salem Boys Basketball Tigers snapped their four game losing streak with a 69-59 win over the Warrensburg Tigers. Zayne Kyser led the way with 16 points followed by Logan Pogue with 15. Zack Elliott and Logan Wolfe each netted 13 for Salem as they improve to 5-5 going into 2015. The Boys will be off until January 13th when they host the Sullivan Eagles.
Missouri’s Maty Mauk rebounded from two early interceptions to lead the 16th-ranked Tigers over the Minnesota Golden Gophers, 33-17, in the Citrus Bowl. Mauk completed 12-of-19 passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers (11-3), who recorded 11 wins for the fourth time in program history. He also carried the ball 11 times for 38 yards and a score. Marcus Murphy carried the ball 12 times for 157 yards for Missouri, which has won its last three bowl games. Russell Hansbrough rushed for 114 yards and a score on 15 carries. Bud Sasser caught seven passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
The St. Louis Blues will be in Anaheim tonight to face the Ducks starting at 8:30 as they continue their four game road trip. The Blues have lost five of their last six games. The Missouri Basketball Tigers lost to Oklahoma State Tuesday night in overtime by the score of 74-72. Jonathan Williams III led Missouri with 22 points. Missouri will face Lipscomb Saturday afternoon starting at 3:30. You can hear that game on KSMO Radio.
The Kansas City Royals on Monday announced they have signed pitcher Edinson Volquez to a two-year contract with a mutual option for 2017. Volquez spent 2014 with Pittsburgh and had a record of 13-7 and a 3.04 ERA in 32 games, all but one as a starter. The American League-champion Royals had been in need of another starting pitcher with the loss of James Shields to free agency. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Royals designated infielder Ryan Jackson for assignment.
Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon had wrist surgery on Tuesday, but should be ready by spring training. The procedure repaired the extensor retinaculum in Gordon's right wrist, which bothered the All-Star left fielder for most of the 2014 season.
